Get ready to lock in and dominate with the Warrior Alpha LX3 Pro glove. Featuring Warrior’s most protective build yet on a hockey glove, this one is built for players who want a pro-level model that doesn’t skimp out on protection or feel. Let’s look at the specs, then decide whether this glove is the right one to take your game to the next level.

Note

This glove is not to be confused with the Alpha LX3 Pro Stock. The Alpha LX3 Pro hockey glove is a top-of-the-line stock glove (the glove we talk about in this review), whereas the Alpha LX3 Pro Stock gloves are customized standard Alpha LX3 gloves and do not come with a warranty. The easiest way to differentiate them is by checking for visible ventilation: if it’s there, they’re the LX3 Pro; if they’re not, they’re the LX3 Pro Stock.

Graphics

The graphics on these gloves are pretty quiet, with most of it being tactile rather than visual. Most of the logos are in white, specifically around the cuff and thumb, with a few smaller logos around the bottom portion of the hand. Depending on where you feel along the outside of the glove, the texture could be rough, leathery, rubbery, tacky, or even ribbed. You do get a bit of that Alpha green in the palm, and both the inside cuff and the palm are different shades of tan. With the black base, this glove will easily fit the colours of nearly any hockey team.

The Hockey Shop carries three variant colours of this glove: black, navy, and black/red. Navy is very similar to black, with the majority of the glove besides the logos being a solid colour. Black/red has some variation, with a black base and red contouring around the ventilation ports, along the cuff, and splitting the fingers and backhand.

Alpha Glove Family

Warrior has three main glove families: Covert, Franchise, and Alpha. Covert is more contoured, designed to fit around your hand snugly at all angles, and Franchise has a four-roll glove design with a more traditional fit. Alpha fits somewhere in the middle, with a hybrid tapered fit. This means it starts pretty snug in the lower palm and thumb areas before tapering out for increased volume around the upper hand and fingers. The glove is constructed with both mobility and protection in mind.

Construction

Key tech:

  • Tri-Lam foam

  • Space shield 2.0

  • Molded ventilation

  • AX Suede

  • AXYFLEX 2-piece thumb

  • Pro Palm X

  • WarTech FNC

  • TuffTek 2.0 nylon

Shields

The big tech in this glove is the implementation of Tri-Lam with Space Shield 2.0.

It can get confusing, but Space Shield 2.0 isn’t just the plastic inserts you feel along the fingers and backhand—it’s specifically the triangular prism shield running diagonally across the backhand. The concept borrows from sloped armour: by angling the surface, an incoming projectile either has to travel farther or ricochets off, sapping its kinetic energy. It’s the same principle WWII tanks used to counter heavy ammunition with less material.

Of course, you’re here for hockey. The triangular prism in the tough shield doesn’t completely absorb the impact. Instead, it absorbs and then disperses it, and can even cause the puck to simply slide off, all of which lowers the overall force coming in.

Foams and Ventilation

I mentioned Tri-Lam earlier but didn’t elaborate. “Tri” is three, and that’s precisely the number of foam layers stacked to create Warrior’s most protective glove to date. “Lam” suggests “laminated” foam, which means multiple layers are used to create sturdier hand protection.

This foam is extremely rigid and combines HD VN and IXPE foams. However tough you think this foam could be, trust me, it’s even tougher than it looks. You can also the laminated foam layer is there when you press between sections of the backplate and fingers.

We should also talk a bit about the ventilation system, which has been placed strategically to keep you cool while you play. The section between the backhand and cuff is protected by exposed Tri-Lam foam with four air holes.

Tri-Lam and Space Shield 2.0 do make the glove feel noticeably denser in the cuff and lower hand portions compared to how it is in the standard LX3 glove. It’s recommended that you come in-store to try them out first before buying.

Liner and Palm

Warrior is always going for that “ Buttersoft feel,” which essentially means the glove not only feels soft and smooth along the inside, but is also ready to play with right out of the box. The gloves use WarTech FNC liner to keep the gloves feeling clean and dry for longer, too.

The glove employs Pro Palm X, a pro-tested palm made of AX Suede that’s both very durable and feels extremely soft in your hand. This palm is embossed and includes reinforcements along the middle of the palm and palmar crease, as well as up the thumb.

Cuff, Fingers, and Thumb

Speaking of the thumb, another way that Warrior gets that Buttersoft feel is through the addition of their AXYFLEX thumb. AXYFLEX is a two-piece thumb, which increases stability and makes it easier to hold onto the stick. With the inherent flexibility in the fingers, you shouldn’t need—or even want—too much mobility in the thumb, as that can make control on the stick much harder. Warrior’s thumb design strikes that balance, offering just enough stability and flexibility to complement the fingers.

And of course, if you’re like me, the cuff is a huge deciding factor when picking gloves. The Pro Cuff is quite wide, playing into the glove’s tapered fit while still allowing a full range of motion. The taper flares out at the cuff, which is what delivers that mobility without sacrificing protection.

Final Thoughts - Is This Glove the Right One for You?

Gloves work best when they fit your hand well. That means the deciding factor for your gloves should be whether they fit on your hands. Additionally, they shouldn’t be putting any kind of painful pressure anywhere, like the thumb, wrist, knuckles, or palmar crease (between fingers and thumb), whether your hand is open or closed. With all that in mind, the LX3 Pro will benefit players who may want something tighter around the thumb and lower hand, while requiring more finger and upper hand space.

This glove is part of the Alpha family, which is Warrior’s middle-ground hybrid tapered fit that sits between a fully contoured Covert and traditional-protection Franchise. If you’re already a fan of the Alpha fit, then this one won’t really throw you any curveballs.

It’s worth noting that the LX3 Pro does feel denser in the backhand compared to other Alpha builds, thanks to the Tri-Lam foam. If you like the look and most of the tech but want something looser in the backhand, the Alpha LX3 is an option, with tons of Pro Stock options. Just bear in mind that the standard LX3 uses Duo-Lam foam rather than Tri-Lam and uses a different ventilation system.
