The CCM Extreme Flex E5.5 YTH Leg Pads feature lightweight performance and modern technologies to benefit the recreational goalie. The use of CCM’s DUAL1TECORE, SpeedSkin and Quick Motion Strapping System give goalies a great value option.
External Material
The CCM EFlex E5.5 is wrapped in CCM’s proprietary SpeedSkin material. SpeedSkin is just as thick and durable as traditional Jenpro, but it's embossed texture allows for an effortless slide.
Internal Construction
The core of the CCM E5.5 leg pads are made up of CCM’s DUAL1TECORE Technology. While also being incredibly light, the DUAL1TECORE gives the pad a different flex profile in key areas. The boot and shin of the EFlex E5.5 are soft and allow for torsional flex, feel and mobility. Above the knee, the pad has added stiffness to maintain seal and structure along the ice.
Pad Break
The break setup on the CCM E-Flex E5.5 consists of one outer break, paired with an internal pre-curved single break. This gives goalies flex at the knee and five hole closure, while maintaining the pad’s seal to the ice.
Boot Angle & Toe Taper
The EFlex E5.5 pad features a soft, flexible 90 degree boot. The softness of the boot, paired with the flat angle of it, gives goalies easier movements. Movements such as power pushes and butterfly recoveries are easier, because they are able to lean more into a pad with a forgiving flex.
Knee Cradle
The knee cradle on the E5.5 youth is a deeper knee cradle, which helps close the five hole. The knee cradle is also recessed with a removable knee cradle wrap. This recessed foam promotes better pad rotation when dropping in the butterfly, and the removable knee cradle wrap gives the goalie a customized fit; they can put the knee strap on the wrap, or down at the calf.
Knee & Thigh Protection
The E-flex E5.5 youth leg pads include a legal thigh protector that protects the top of the knee, and provides adequate protection before the goalie graduates to an independent knee pad.
Strapping
The EFlex E5.5 features CCM’s Quick Motion strapping system. Through work with the biomechanics team at Western University, CCM was able to find out what straps were actually needed on a pad, along with which configuration performed the best. The two velcro calf straps and knee strap make the pad lighter, along with giving the pad great responsiveness and butterfly drop speed. The toe bridge of the EFlex E5.5 has a velcro bungee system, in the place of traditional skate lace. CCM’s bungee system is quick and secure, and allows for more flexibility, easing the stress on goalies’ joints.

Goalie Leg Pads Sizing
Deciding your Goalie Pads size is crucial for having total control while moving in the crease. Sizing your pads properly is the difference between getting that perfect seal on your butterfly, and feeling clunky or unprotected in the net. Below we have compiled some information to better assist you in deciding which size is right for you.
Floor-To-Knee Measurement
Your Floor-To-Knee measurement will give you a good indication as to what "Pad Size" you will need. This measurement can be matched up with the provided sizing chart above.
How to Measure your Floor-To-Knee
- 1. In your bare feet, place the soft measuring tape at the inside of the bottom of your foot.
2. Slightly bend your knee.
3. Run the soft measuring tape up your shin, to the middle of your knee.
4. Match your Floor-To-Knee measurement with the provided sizing chart
What to look for when trying on your new pads.
Once you have your new leg pads, you’ll need to make sure they fit you properly. To do so, you’ll need to put the pads on with your skates. There a couple things to do to check size, once you have the pads on:
1. Stand straight and bring your feet together. This will show you the overall height of the pad, while on. Your pads should not be taller than your hips. Ideally you want the top of your pad at the half-way point of your thighs. A pad fitted for a young growing goaltender can be a little taller, so a little above the half-way point is normal.
2. Next you want to get in your stance, keep your hands in a ready position, and drop to your butterfly. Without moving your legs to correct your butterfly, bring your heels together. This is where you assess your knee position. For a proper fit, you want the middle of your knee to sit directly on the center of the knee stack. If you’re looking for growing room, you want the middle of your knee to land roughly 1.5” below the center of the knee stack (1” for JR).
Not getting a complete seal while in your butterfly?
If you're having trouble getting a full seal in your new pads, it may be the way you’re strapping them up. Make sure your boot strap and top straps (above knee) are loosened up a bit. The reason you want these straps loose is because they have a direct effect on the rotation of the pad. Having a loose boot strap makes it easy for your foot and ankle to rotate as the pad moves. Same goes for the top straps, as you don't want them pulling down too hard on the thigh rise.
