"With more female athletes climbing the ranks in professional and recreational hockey, it’s becoming even more important to make sure those players are getting the gear that fits them right, and as early as possible. Having accessible, properly fitting gear is integral for players to both play at their best and avoid injury."
Intro & New Features
Bauer’s latest women’s shoulder pad is the new Vapor Fly-W. These shoulder pads take a combination from elite level pads, while also having specific features for women to ensure comfort and 100% protection. With the low profile shoulder caps, and Nanosense liner, these pads will have you ready to dive into the action on the ice.
Shoulder Caps & Protection
The low profile shoulder cap designs are engineered to be lightweight and adapt dynamically to the player’s range of motion, providing reliable protection against impacts while keeping the shoulder pads lightweight and responsive. The caps feature a series of integrated foams to provide protection against impacts, while allowing for easy movements.
Sternum Protection
The chest is protected with a floating low-profile molded sternum. This padding keeps the chest protected from impacts, and allows the player to focus on the game with the reduced chance of injuries occurring. These shoulder pads feature a contoured vest with a cinching design that adapts to the players chest for a personalized and custom fit.
Spine Protection
The Bauer Vapor Fly-W shoulder pads provide exceptional and reliable spine protection with an integrated molded spine. This design offers crucial impact resistance, shielding the spine from potential injuries during intense gameplay. It also enhances the overall protective capabilities of the shoulder pads without sacrificing comfort or mobility. The full coverage vest is designed to wrap around the body, and features ventilated foams in the back panel for increased protection and aeration.
Bicep Protection
These shoulder pads are equipped with adjustable biceps, allowing players to customize the fit to their preference, for enhanced comfort and mobility. This feature ensures a snug fit around the bicep area for better overall protection, so players can focus on their game without distractions. Additionally, the bicep area incorporates molded PE protection, which offers reliable impact resistance against check and collisions on the ice.
Liner
Bauer used their Nanosense liner when designing these shoulder pads. What this blend of technology brings is a soft and cool feel. The liner has also been coated with a sweat and odor-managing treatment to keep the gloves and you fresher for longer.

Player Shoulder Pad Sizing
Sizing before Purchase
To fit for a properly sized shoulder pad, you will need a soft tape measurer to measure and record your chest measurement. To do this, find the widest point of your chest (usually just below your armpits) and measure the circumference. Record the measurement in inches and compare to the available sizing charts in each brand. Also compare your height, weight and age to find your best fit.
Sizing after Purchase
Once you have received your new shoulder pad, stand in front of a mirror and strap them on. You will want to check the follow criteria to ensure a proper and protective fit:
- 1. The tips of your shoulder are sitting directly under the middle of the shoulder cap. If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap.
- This is important because if the shoulder cap does not sit in the correct position, your clavicles, shoulders, and upper arms can become more susceptible to injury. 2. The bicep guards are positioned maximum halfway down the upper arm.
- Adjust the bicep guards using the Velcro straps located underneath the shoulder caps (if applicable). At the highest point, the bicep guards should not be more than halfway down the upper arm. This is important because they can interfere with your elbow pads, throwing off the fit.
If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap and not directly in line with the middle.
