True Dynamic 9 Helmet Review

TRUE’s first entry into the protective category of helmets introduces the Dynamic 9 Pro to us. The Dynamic 9 Pro has some unique features we have not seen in player helmets before. Let’s take a further look at what makes this helmet different from its’ competition.

True Dynamic 9 Helmet

Ultra-Lightweight

The Dynamic 9 Pro is designed with a one-piece polycarbonate shell. The unibody construction allowed TRUE to remove unnecessary material and add some additional padded foam into these areas around the shell. This manufacturing method used on the helmet is the first of its kind making this helmet the lightest hockey helmet in its class.

MIPS Technology

TRUE is the first manufacturer to partner with MIPS to implement the MIPS Brain Protection System. What is MIPS? Their technology includes a low friction layer within the helmet that is designed to reduce the transfer of rotational motion to the brain from angled impacts to the head. What this means is there is a layer within the helmet that can rotate anywhere from 5-15mm in the hopes of decreasing the severity of the impact. Most prevalent in the ski and biking industry this is the first time we’ve seen MIPS technology used in a hockey helmet.

Fit Customization

One of the most important things when it comes to helmet effectiveness is ensuring the right fit. The Dynamic 9 Pro will allow for the perfect fit no matter what head shape with TRUE’s interchangeable side and rear occipital Fitpads.

With every Dynamic 9 PRO, Fitpads with three different thicknesses are provided creating 360-degree adjustability. The Fitpad System allows helmets to be adjusted 5% larger or smaller depending on the combination of Fitpads used in the helmet. The FitPads are attached via Velcro so no extra tools are needed for fit customization. Side FitPads have sizes of 2mm, 6mm, and 10mm of thickness where the rear FitPads come in 5mm, 10mm, and 15mm of thickness.

Final Thoughts

I’m definitely a fan of the sleek, low profile look of the Dynamic 9 Pro helmet by TRUE. Although this is TRUE’s first helmet, it is not easy to find much I would want changed. The helmet is comfortable and lightweight once on the head, and the FitPad System is quick and easy to use. Come by the store and check out the first hockey helmet with the unique MIPS Brain Protection System for yourself.
