CCM Tacks 910 Helmet

The CCM Tacks 910 helmet is an impressive release. It has a ton of protective tech built into it as you'd expect for a premium level helmet but the first thing you'll probably notice is how soft the inside foams and liners feel to the touch – and that "feel test" really translates when you put the helmet on and CCM has stats to back up why.

Working with the University of Ottawa, thousands of helmets were tested and over 4000 hours of video analysis was done to identify and measure different types of impacts including falls to the ice, hits to boards or glass, and body to head impacts. It doesn't hurt that it has a pro validated look that is surprisingly sleek for how much padding is built into it. Let's take a closer look!

Inner Foam Technologies

Fluid Inside Pods

Fluid Inside is a pod technology that has been strategically placed at the top, back and sides of the helmet to help manage a wide range of impacts. I found the Fluid Inside pods to be really comfortable compared to other pod/gel technologies and I was impressed by the cushioning they provided, especially at the top of my head.

D30 Smart Material

D30 is a lightweight, smart foam that CCM has implemented in the Tacks 710 and Fitlite 90, and 3DS helmets. This pro-level foam is located at the sides of the Tacks 910 and provides comprehensive defense from a wide range of side impacts.

I.Q.SHION Gel & Smooth Contour

I.Q.SHION foam provides a premium level of comfort, holding the helmet firmly in place on your head while retaining a comfortable feel. This foam is found throughout the helmet, serving as a hydrophobic layer to keep the helmet dry and fresh throughout the game. Smooth Contour is a finish applied to the outer foam moulding that prevents rough edges on your skin. While not a key call-out, it's one of the features that gives the 910 it's super soft and comfortable feel. I'm a big fan.

Active Stabilizer

Active Stabilizer is an occipital support cushion that automatically self-adjusts to the unique shape of the back of your head, making sure you have a secure fit during play. I prefer helmets that have an occipital lock feature option included as it helps keep your helmet locked in. The Active Stabilizer does a good job of sitting in a comfortable position while automatically staying snug.

Outer Shell

The Tacks 910 helmet is a new shell design from CCM and is different than the other Tacks models that have a single adjustment for length and width located at the back of the helmet. The Tacks 910 features a front to back tool-less adjustment system with a wider range for a custom fit that allows a 29% greater range than Tacks 310 & 710 helmets.

The venting has been revamped based on pro feedback and the shell shape passes the mirror test with flying colours.

Even the little details have been thought of like optimizing space for the placement of helmet numbers and team logos.

Final Thoughts

With lots of innovative tech and spec and a great "pro look", the Tacks 910 helmet is worth checking out if you're in the market for a new lid. I found that it fit great while still being extremely comfortable. Want to find out which helmet is the right fit for you?
