Intro/New Features

Warrior’s next project is out, and it adds an extra twist to the renowned Ritual M2. The Ritual M2i stick is Warrior’s lightest goalie stick to date and debuts a new, innovative shaft shape for more leverage and greater control when shooting. The stick also features a Minimus Carbon 25 construction, SlideGrip technology, and an iridescent finish.

Shaft Construction

The big innovation in the Ritual M2i stick is the asymmetrical shaft. The top and bottom of the shaft are standard size, while the middle of the shaft tapers a little. With this construction, it’s able to fit strategically and securely to the heel of the trapper for more control when handling the puck and shooting. Fewer corners also means transitioning from a poke check to shooting is seamless, and the shaft can also last longer. Despite the tapered shape, it still provides the same coverage as a standard goalie stick.

Paddle Construction

The added leverage from the new shaft shape also gives your bottom hand on the paddle a bit more accuracy and control. In addition to the changed feel from the shaft, the RM2i paddle has an innovative, geometric design to improve the energy load from the paddle through to the low kick point of the stick. The beauty of the Ritual M-series is in its incredible balance and playability, and the M2i, like the M2 Pro, has taken that legacy to the next level by incorporating a Minimus Carbon 12 weave into the previous M1’s build. This upgraded carbon fibre weave works with the geometry to enhance energy load, giving you better control when taking shots and passes.

Blade Construction/Stiffness

The blade is where the Minimus Carbon 12 material really makes an impact on the stick’s construction. Warrior sticks have been growing in popularity for their increasing durability and balance with every new iteration. Minimus Carbon 12 strengthens and stiffens the blade, making it more reliable on shots, passes, and rebounds.

Graphics

The Warrior Ritual M2i stick is a bit less matte and more iridescent chrome details, specifically between the paddle and the shaft. The main colours still have the same Ritual M-series black and green. The Minimus Carbon 12 weave is visible in the form of squares along the entire stick. “R/M2i” and “Warrior” have been printed along both the shaft and the paddle in black to blend in with the rest of the graphics.

Grip

At the top of the paddle, SlideGrip technology provides better hold and control of the stick. It is not as textured as it is on the Pro for increased hold, and tapers out into a matte finish.

Blade Patterns, Paddle Lengths, Stick Lengths, Weight, Level of Play

The Warrior Ritual M2i Senior Goalie Stick is ideal for the elite-level goalie and especially one that likes to experiment. It comes in paddle lengths 25”, 26”, and 27.5”. Warrior broadened the blade pattern selection for the Ritual M2 series: in addition to Mid (Quick, W32) and Twist (Bishop, W33) patterns seen before with the M1, the M2 also comes in the Wedge (Mrazek, W34) pattern.

Goalie Stick Sizing Information

Unlike other pieces of gear, Goalie Sticks are sized mostly to the goaltender’s preference and playing style rather than their height. The most important measurement, when purchasing a new goal stick, is the paddle height (the wide portion of the stick), which is usually taken from the heel of the stick to the shaft/paddle interface. The reason for the paddle height’s significance is because it sets up the goaltender’s depth in the ready stance and (if properly sized) positions the blocker in an optimal position.

Sizing Your Goalie Stick
To start analyzing the size of your goalie stick, put on your goalie skates to get an accurate height of where you will be in your stance. If you’re looking to be even more accurate, strap on your goalie pads and blocker as well. Once that is done, get comfortable in your natural stance (the one you’d be in during a majority of gameplay) and look for the following:
1. The entire blade of the stick is flush with the ground while being 1’ - 2’ in front of your feet
2. After getting your stick into the flush position, check that the inside edge of the blocker hand sits on the outside edge of the goal pad (this is while holding just above the paddle).

Goalie Stick Sizing Considerations
Goalie Stick sizing can be very subjective compared to other pieces of equipment. The reason for this is the ambiguity of each goaltenders ‘natural stance’, especially with younger goaltenders. It is rather common for children to use taller sticks in comparison to their height, as their stance depth isn’t usually as aggressive as a seasoned goalie.

The shaft length of a goalie stick is usually best left at its stock length, as it serves to counteract the weight of the blade and ideally place the center of gravity at the top of the paddle. The one exception to this rule is for advanced puck handlers, cutting the shaft will allow more power transfer when shooting as a result of being able to keep the blade flush to the ice while near the goaltender’s feet.
