The palm is the part of a blocker that wears out first, because it takes every stick grip and all the sweat of a season. Swapping the liner brings a blocker you otherwise like back to usable instead of retiring the whole unit.
The liner sits behind the blocker board and holds your hand and your stick grip. It is built to keep the hand cool and dry through a game, which does more for grip than anything else on a blocker.
