Intro & New Features
Vaughn completes the long-awaited Ventus SLR3 set with the SLR3 Pro Carbon blocker. Manufactured for the butterfly goalie and in 2022, this blocker is outfitted with a VX Suede Palm, QuickSlide technology, a flex-style cuff, and Pure Carbon inserts.
External Material
The SLR3 Pro Carbon blocker uses classic jenpro synthetic leather on the exterior. Jenpro is well-known for its superior durability and performance. Vaughn’s QuickSlide has been added to the bottom edge to protect that area from wear and tear and increase sliding ability on the stick. Nylon mesh can be found on the cuff and thumb for good breathability in those areas.
Internal Construction
The internal board of the blocker uses thick Super HD foam for good protection. A Pure Carbon insert has been placed on top of the foam for better pop on the rebounds and for additional coverage. The Pro Carbon insert is also in the leg pads of the SLR3 Pro Carbon set, which complements the blocker and its emphasis on rebound control.
Internal Construction
Vaughn added a Pure Composite core, and when combined with carbon fibre layering, it gives the pads a firmer perimeter and unparalleled pop on the rebounds. The stiffness has been redistributed to accommodate taller goalies who may have had some blocking challenges with the softer SLR2. At retail, the SLR3 is constructed to be stiffer at the top above the knee roll and more flexible near the boot.
Palm Material
The break angle of the V9 Pro Carbon catcher is designed to feel similar to that of a CCM 590 break. It uses a new more defined break point allowing for easier closure compared to the previous VE8 XP.
Side Hand Protection
The palm is made of VX Suede material with an antimicrobial grip overlay. VX Suede is a high-quality nash material known for its smooth and comfortable feel, as well as its durability and cut resistance. The antimicrobial grip overlay can help you keep hold of your stick, and it also does a good job of wicking away moisture, effectively lengthening the life of the blocker.
Strapping
Like the board, the side shield has also been furnished with a Pure Carbon insert to give better protection and control on rebounds as needed. A Super HD side shield insert was included to build on that protection.
In addition to the materials used, improvements have been made to enhance performance. The sidewall was expanded in multiple directions to heighten coverage and make the board stiffer. The style is larger, and the side shield now overlaps around the front board.
Cuff
Complementing the extra coverage given with the SLR3 gear, the blocker comes with a good amount of hand and finger protection without sacrificing movement. The fingers are reinforced with dual finger protectors with carbon inserts, finger protector HD foam end pads, and a thumb cushion pad. The finger protectors are molded dimensionally for better coverage. The backhand has also been reinforced with cushion padding.
The hand position on the blocker has also been modified. The hand is now higher to optimize downward coverage. In addition, extra coverage and flexibility have been provided by having separate main and index finger guards.
Hand Protection
The Vaughn Velocity V9 XP Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Catcher is available in a number of stock colours, however this particular catcher features royal and baby blue accents on a white catcher.

Goalie Blockers Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Blocker is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Blocker provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Blocker Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Blocker size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Blocker Fit
It is important to ensure that the fingers tips lie close to the seam of the palm, or within 0.5” if the Blocker is for a young growing goaltender. Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector. You also want to ensure that the goalie can maintain control of their stick in addition to being able to maneuver the blocker when handling the puck.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Blocker can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Blocker Hands Simplified
- Regular - Blocker worn on your Right Hand
- Full Right - Blocker worn on your Left Hand
