Intro & New Features
New for 2025 is the Vaughn Velocity VX1 Youth Catcher. This catcher is packed with features to make it a solid and reliable option for young goalies. Vaughn added a 50° angle for easier closure, a single T pocket, and an adjustable wrist strap allowing goalies to customize the fit to their needs.
External Material
Vaughn uses the JenPro material on the outer construction of this catcher. This durable material provides the glove with a reliable and solid outer build, and it helps keep the catcher in shape for longer. JenPro is a synthetic leather and trusted material and can be found on many pieces of goalie equipment because of its reliability, appearance, and overall performance that it provides.
Break Angle
The VX1 catcher uses a 50° palm break with easy flex. It uses a more defined breakpoint allowing for easier closure compared to previous models. This provides easier puck retention and quick flashes of the glove to make those big saves.
Pocket Design
The youth VX1 catcher features a single T pocket design, offering young goalies a smooth and easy closure with less time to break-in. The all new design is optimized for easy closure and has extra flex for goalies with smaller hands. The catcher also has an optimized shape and large T-web pocket for better puck coverage on the ice.
Strapping
The catcher is secured using an adjustable wrist strap. The strap can be seen on the inside of the catcher and by tightening the strap, the catcher will securely enclose the hand in place, allowing all the protective pieces to be in a spot that will keep goalies protected from all impacts.
Cuff Design
The VX1 uses a one-piece cuff and thumb closure to keep goalies protected while on the ice. The cuff features no bindingness and allows for easier puck tracking and retention.
Sizes & Colors
The Vaughn Velocity VX1 Youth Goalie Catcher is available in White/Black and in Regular and Full-Right catch hands. Full-Right is designed for those who catch with their right hand.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
- Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
- Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
