Intro & New Features
The Vaughn VX1 chest protector is a part of the Velocity line for the 2025 season. Designed with maximum protection and support in mind, it features many key specs to make it a reliable protector for goalies of all levels, including a chest that is designed with longer front coverage and a lower flex flap, back shoulder plate protection, and large style shoulder floaters to provide elite-level protection.
External Material
The VX1 chest protector exterior is made of high density foams that provide a lightweight feel with increased protection in key areas. The durable, HD foams provide goalies with protection from impacts by absorbing the contact and dispersing it so goalies can continue playing without getting injured.
Internal Foams
The padding inside the chest protector is made up of foams that can be found throughout the pad. The rib protection is extended and features foams to keep them protected from incoming impacts. The spinal area also features a large back pad that is loaded with HD foam over the to provide extra protection.
Shoulder Caps
On the VX1, Vaughn increased the shoulder area for a greater blocking surface. The large shoulder caps are designed to provide increased impact resistance while the HD shoulder floaters provide protection and have an extended length and width for increased coverage area.
Arm Protection
The flat profile arms on the VX1 are designed to increase the coverage area, while the increased length wrist straps provide a more secure fit. The arm floaters on this protector have a deeper side profile that adds to the coverage area, with strategically placed HD foams throughout to provide protection and coverage to goalies.
Elbow Caps
The VX1 is equipped with molded plastizote foam and HD foam elbow caps that provide protection and durability to goalies, while also allowing them to not restrict movements and allow for goalies to feel comfortable while wearing this protector.

Goalie Chest Protector Sizing
Sizing a chest protector is important to ensure the goaltenders range of motion is uninhibited, while still offering complete coverage from impact. There are steps necessary to finding the right fit in your chest protector, and the first is to know your measurements. Here at The Hockey Shop, we like to use two measurements: torso length and arm span. Once you have these two measurements, match your measurements to our sizing charts.
Sizing your Chest Protector
After receiving your chest protector, you are going to want to check if the size fits the following criteria:
- 1. The arms end just before your wrist. This is important because you want to ensure that the wrist portion of the arms do not interfere with your blocker and catcher—this still provides adequate growing room for the blocker and trapper, which usually last you 1 to 2 years. Depending on the model, adjustable arms may be an offered feature, which is an added bonus for goaltenders that are still growing.
2. Your elbows fit securely in to the pocket of the elbow protection, and do not shift too far away from them. Keep in mind, arms usually have to be adjusted while putting on your chest & arm. Use the adjustable arm features where given to give you an optimal fit.
3. Make sure the shoulders of the chest & arm are sitting comfortably atop, and wrapped around your shoulders. This can be seen visually by looking at the collar of the chest & arm. You want the collar to sit slightly above your clavicle, but not too high that it interferes with the bottom of your goalie mask.
