External Material
Vaughn uses the JenPro material on the outer construction of this catcher. This durable material provides the glove with a reliable and solid outer build, and it helps keep the catcher in shape for longer. JenPro is a trusted material and is found on nearly all of Vaughn’s goalie equipment because of its reliability, appearance, and overall performance that it provides.
Break Angle
This catcher has been designed with a 60-degree break closure. The 60-degree break closure is a deeper, more full-hand closure that is unlike what has been done before in previous years of Vaughn catchers. It provides a good balance of coverage and mobility. The downwards angle of the palm creates a large catching surface that can help goalies make catches on high shots, while also allowing for quick, fluid movements when making saves in tight. The angle of the palm is designed to align with the natural curvature of the hand, which can help to reduce stress and fatigue on the wrist and hand over time.
Pocket Design
The youth ION catcher features a single T pocket design, offering young goalies a smooth and easy closure with less time to break-in. The all new design is optimized for easy closure and has extra flex for goalies with smaller hands. The pocket has a wide and extra deep T-web design for added puck retention.
Palm Material
The palm on this catcher is designed with a game ready feel. The dimensionally molded palm adds support and protection while maintaining comfort and support. The easy close game-ready feel is designed for effortless opening and closing right out of the box.
Cuff Design
The Vaughn ION Youth catcher features a solid cuff that provides additional wrist stability and maximizes net coverage. This cuff offers extra wrist stability for young goalies while maximizing surface coverage, and is designed for structural integrity and a stable catching shape.
Strapping
The catcher is secured using an adjustable wrist strap. The strap can be seen on the inside of the catcher and by tightening the strap, the catcher will securely enclose the hand in place, allowing all the protective pieces to be in a spot that will keep goalies protected from all impacts.

Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth.
