Along with the new ION Select Goalie line created by Vaughn in 2026, this is the Vaughn ION Select Goalie Catcher. The ION Select features many high-performance elements that make it a high-level catcher including a one-piece cuff, a 60° break angle, and a double T pocket design, with a 45” perimeter size that maximizes net coverage.
External Material
The ION Select catcher is made out of a durable leather featuring a sharp graphic. It features QuickSlide accents in high wear areas along with a nylon binding and backing. Vaughn uses a glove base interior with antimicrobial treatment in the finger stalls and better breathability, comfort and quick drying. The interior of the finger stalls contain an internal grip rail helping goalies get a better grip on the glove allowing them to snap it shut quicker and with ease.
Break Angle
This catcher has been designed with a 60-degree break closure. The 60-degree break closure is a deeper, more full-hand closure (fingers to the base of the thumb) that is unlike what has been done before in previous years of Vaughn catchers. It provides a good balance of coverage and mobility. The downward angle of the palm creates a large catching surface that can help goalies make catches on high shots, while also allowing for quick, fluid movements when making saves in tight. The angle of the palm is designed to align with the natural curvature of the hand, which can help to reduce stress and fatigue on the wrist and hand over time.
Pocket Design
The pocket is designed with a wide span and deep T-trap construction. The reinforced double T-top allows for greater stability when making glove saves. It offers two separate sections for the puck to settle into, which can help improve control and prevent the puck from popping out upon impact. The fit of the catcher is designed to be game-ready right off the shelf.
Strapping
The quick adjust webbing wrist strap features added padding for better protection, while also offering easier adjustability. The wrist strap itself is positioned to provide greater wrist flex, which improves the overall mobility. The padded wrist strap also provides additional glove security and control.
Cuff Design
The ION Select uses a one-piece cuff and thumb closure to keep goalies protected while on the ice. The cuff features no bindingless and allows for easier puck tracking and retention.
Hand Protection
The hand is protected with a series of foams that are dispersed throughout the glove and still allows for an easy closure. The HD foam in the back over the fingers and finger tip deflecting rails has added HD foams to provide goalies with a catcher that is protective and will keep them secured from impacts while making glove saves.
Palm Material
Inside the catcher, Vaughn added new features to make the catcher both comfortable and protective. The integration of Shock Shield foam was implemented in the palm to help goalies absorb impacts, keeping their hands protected from injuries. The pre-formed aggressive palm break comes with a game-ready fit right off the shelf, which takes less time to break in, allowing goalies to get on the ice sooner. The palm also features a glove base interior that has antimicrobial treatment that is designed to help treat odors and keep the catcher feeling fresh for longer.
Sizes & Colors
The Vaughn ION Select Senior Goalie Catcher - 60 Degree is available in the following colors: Black, White, White/Black, White/Blue, and White/Red. This catcher is also available in regular and full-right. Full-right is designed for goalies who catch with their right hand and use their blocker on their left.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
- Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
- Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
