Vaughn has released the ION Select Goalie Blocker as part of their 2026 goalie protective line. This blocker comes with a full 8” x 15” blocker surface with no binding, an updated blocking board profile shape that is designed to maximize net coverage, and an angled back hand padding to improve the blocking angle.
External Material
The ION Select blocker features a bindingless, durable leather face with QuickSlide accents in high wear areas such as the nose and finger areas. The backhand uses a combination of nylon keeping it light and durable.
Internal Construction
This blocker has a molded inner core foam board construction. This design keeps the blocker lightweight and mobile so goalies aren’t feeling restricted with a heavy blocker. The blocker board features thick HD foam with added rigidity to the blocker which provides more active rebounds.
Palm Material
When creating the palm for this blocker, Vaughn wanted it to be comfortable and durable. The VX Suede Palm is designed for dexterity and stick control, providing goalies additional grip when holding onto their sticks. The palm also features ventilation ports which improve the breathability of this palm, keeping it fresh for longer.
Side Hand Protection
The side of the hand is protected with a larger style side shield. The stiffer high-density side shield inserts are reinforced with a HD foam internal structure. This construction allows the goalies to have protection in all the key areas, and providing protection in those key areas.
Cuff Design
The ION Select blocker is designed with an open style cuff. This build allows for more wrist rotation and mobility for goalies, allowing goalies to move more freely while making saves. Additionally, it allows goalies to improve rebound control by getting their blocker in the way of shots. Having high hand positioning on the blocker increases the downwards coverage area, maximizing net coverage.
Finger & Hand Protection
The hand is protected with a molded anatomically shaped back hand padding. The anatomically padding is designed to mold to the natural shape of your hand, providing coverage in all of the critical areas, with added comfort and glove control. The fingers on this blocker feature finger protection end pads with HD inserts to provide comfort as well as protection from all impacts.
Colors & Blocker Hand
The Vaughn ION Select Senior Goalie Blocker is available in the following colors: Black, White, White/Black, White/Blue, and White/Red. It also comes with a full-right option in Black and White. Full-right is designed for those goalies who use their blocker on their left hand.

Goalie Blockers Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Blocker is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Blocker provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Blocker Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Blocker size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Blocker Fit
It is important to ensure that the fingers tips lie close to the seam of the palm, or within 0.5” if the Blocker is for a young growing goaltender. Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector. You also want to ensure that the goalie can maintain control of their stick in addition to being able to maneuver the blocker when handling the puck.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Blocker can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Blocker Hands Simplified
- Regular - Blocker worn on your Right Hand
- Full Right - Blocker worn on your Left Hand
