The Vaughn ION Goalie Catcher is designed to provide goalies with unwavering protection and support. External Material
Vaughn uses the JenPro material on the outer construction of this catcher. This durable material provides the glove with a reliable and solid outer build, and it helps keep the catcher in shape for longer. JenPro is a trusted material and is found on nearly all of Vaughn’s goalie equipment because of its reliability, appearance, and overall performance that it provides.
Break Angle
This catcher has been designed with a 60-degree break closure. The 60-degree break closure is a deeper, more full-hand closure that is unlike what has been done before in previous years of Vaughn catchers. It provides a good balance of coverage and mobility. The downwards angle of the palm creates a large catching surface that can help goalies make catches on high shots, while also allowing for quick, fluid movements when making saves in tight. The angle of the palm is designed to align with the natural curvature of the hand, which can help to reduce stress and fatigue on the wrist and hand over time.
Pocket Design
The pocket is designed with a wide span and deep T-trap construction. The reinforced double T-top allows for greater stability when making glove saves. It offers two separate for the puck to settle into, which can help improve control and prevent the puck from popping out upon impact. The fit of the catcher is designed to be game-ready right off the shelf.
Palm Material
Vaughn designed the palm of this catcher to be both protective and comfortable. It has added foam into the palm area, which is designed to provide an additional layer of protection against impacts. The durable, integrated foams distribute impact force away from the palm, so that goalies can be protected while making saves.
Cuff Design
The ION catcher is designed with a floating cuff design. A floating cuff is designed to separate the wrist strap and protective cuff from the main body of the glove. This design offers three main benefits for goalies. This cuff offers enhanced wrist mobility and range of motion, an improved stick control and puck handling, as well as seamless integration with the chest protector.
Strapping
To keep the catcher in place, Vaughn added a padded wrist strap. The padded wrist strap can be tightened or fastened as needed for goalies to achieve a fit that is tailored to their specific needs, while also providing protection from impacts. There is also a backhand strap that is adjustable and is designed to keep the catcher on the goalkeeper's hand, providing protection and comfort.

Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
