The HZRDUS SMOKE 9x5 goalie stick is new along with the 2025 hockey season, featuring a low kick to clear the puck quickly and deliver timely breakout passes. Engineered for elite-level responsiveness, it includes Resflo Resin System, which controls the flow of resin during construction to create a stronger, more consistent laminate for better puck feel and long-term durability.
Shaft Construction
The HZRDUS Smoke 9x5 goalie stick shaft has been made softer to complement the stiffer paddle for enhanced playability and puck control. One of the key technologies used is the integration of Resflo technology, which controls the flow of resin during construction to create a stronger, more consistent laminate for better puck feel and long-term durability.
Complementing Resflo is True’s Axenic Technology. This unique manufacturing process is instrumental in crafting an ultra-consistent, one-piece design. The absence of fusion points or overlaps in construction leads to a more balanced stick, translating to better control in handling the puck and shooting, as well as an enhanced feel during play. The stick also uses a Precision Laminate Design that guarantees best in class weight/balance, performance, longevity, and durability.
True has also included the use of True’s Vibration Suppression System, which is designed to absorb and disperse energy from puck impact, providing goalies with the perfect balance of feel and comfort when making stick saves.
Paddle Construction/Stiffness
The paddle’s design is a solid combination of balanced and lightweight to further enhance that efficiency and power you want when controlling and handling the puck. The heightened stiffness works with the softer shaft to enhance performance and feel. The stick is also designed with a low kick point, which is designed for optimal puck clearance.
Blade Construction
The blade is made using a SRT-4S construction. It is designed to provide more stability and power transfer on every clearing attempt by featuring a multi-rib structure that extends throughout the shaft into the blade. True also added Braided Aramid Technology into the blade to reinforce the blade for added strength and control.
Grip
The 9x5 goalie stick uses a clear gloss shaft, paddle, and blade with a textured grip on the shoulder for optimal feel and control. Along with the square shaft shape, it allows goalies to hold onto their sticks with confidence, while still remaining focused on the game.

T31 is a popular mid-curve pattern known for its balance of puck control and passing accuracy. It features a closed toe and is often described as having a lot of hook. This curve is well-suited for goalies who need to handle the puck in tight situations and make accurate passes.

Goalie Stick Sizing Information
Unlike other pieces of gear, Goalie Sticks are sized mostly to the goaltender’s preference and playing style rather than their height. The most important measurement, when purchasing a new goal stick, is the paddle height (the wide portion of the stick), which is usually taken from the heel of the stick to the shaft/paddle interface. The reason for the paddle height’s significance is because it sets up the goaltender’s depth in the ready stance and (if properly sized) positions the blocker in an optimal position.
Sizing Your Goalie Stick
To start analyzing the size of your goalie stick, put on your goalie skates to get an accurate height of where you will be in your stance. If you’re looking to be even more accurate, strap on your goalie pads and blocker as well. Once that is done, get comfortable in your natural stance (the one you’d be in during a majority of gameplay) and look for the following:
1. The entire blade of the stick is flush with the ground while being 1’ - 2’ in front of your feet
2. After getting your stick into the flush position, check that the inside edge of the blocker hand sits on the outside edge of the goal pad (this is while holding just above the paddle).
Goalie Stick Sizing Considerations
Goalie Stick sizing can be very subjective compared to other pieces of equipment. The reason for this is the ambiguity of each goaltenders ‘natural stance’, especially with younger goaltenders. It is rather common for children to use taller sticks in comparison to their height, as their stance depth isn’t usually as aggressive as a seasoned goalie.
The shaft length of a goalie stick is usually best left at its stock length, as it serves to counteract the weight of the blade and ideally place the center of gravity at the top of the paddle. The one exception to this rule is for advanced puck handlers, cutting the shaft will allow more power transfer when shooting as a result of being able to keep the blade flush to the ice while near the goaltender’s feet.
