Intro & New Features

The Catalyst 5X6 Goalie Leg Pads are a mid-level leg pad designed by TRUE for the 2026 season. Designed with many protective features to keep goalies safe, these pads also promote mobility so that goalies aren’t feeling restricted while making saves. Featuring a variety of colors and sizes, these leg pads are a great option for goalies.

External Material

The external of these leg pads is made up of JenPro weave material. It is a durable, synthetic leather primarily used in the manufacturing and repair of goalie equipment. It is functionally identical to standard JenPro, but features an embossed, crisscross pattern stamped into it for a distinct visual texture and slightly different sliding performance on the ice.

Internal Construction

These leg pads are designed with high-density board foams in the face and core for explosive rebounds, balanced by a thinned, more flexible upper thigh rise for easy butterfly closure and five-hole coverage.

Pad Break

These leg pads are designed with a single break on both the inner core and outer roll. This construction includes a softer, more flexible shin and boot area that transitions into a staffer upper section, providing the ideal balance of butterfly seal, five-hole coverage, and mobile post-integration.

Boot Angle & Toe Taper

The regular boot angle offers a great balance between coverage and mobility. They sit higher on the skate, providing good coverage, while still allowing for some flex and toe drag. These pads are a common choice for goalies who want a traditional feel with good coverage and the ability to push off the post.

Strapping System

The FRS strapping system secures the pads with a wide, plush wrap, internally adjustable at two different points to allow precision tuning of the pad's fit. Additionally, TRUE's FRS helps to better balance the pad's weight around the goalie's calf, offering improved rotation with enhanced butterfly stability.

Calf Wrap

The Fast Response System (FRS), located on the calf features a dual internal adjustable strap for stability, weight distribution, and enhanced comfort, which optimizes agility and responsiveness providing precise control and support.

Knee Block

The 5X6 leg pads feature an adjustable knee stack and stiffness block that is designed to let goalies fine-tune how the pad behaves in the butterfly. An integrated strap on the knee block allows you to change the pad’s feel. Tightening it creates a stiffer, locked-in knee stacks for a slide push platform, while loosening it allows for more torsional flex and quicker rotational transitions.

Sizing & Colors

The TRUE Catalyst 5X6 Senior Goalie Leg Pads come in sizes 32+2”, 33+2”, 34+2”, 35+2”, and 36+2”. These leg pads also come in Black, White, White/Black, White/Red, White/Royal, Black/White, and Red/Black.

Goalie Leg Pads Sizing

Deciding your Goalie Pads size is crucial for having total control while moving in the crease. Sizing your pads properly is the difference between getting that perfect seal on your butterfly, and feeling clunky or unprotected in the net. Below we have compiled some information to better assist you in deciding which size is right for you.

Floor-To-Knee Measurement
Your Floor-To-Knee measurement will give you a good indication as to what "Pad Size" you will need. This measurement can be matched up with the provided sizing chart above.

How to Measure your Floor-To-Knee

    1. In your bare feet, place the soft measuring tape at the inside of the bottom of your foot.
    2. Slightly bend your knee.
    3. Run the soft measuring tape up your shin, to the middle of your knee.
    4. Match your Floor-To-Knee measurement with the provided sizing chart

What to look for when trying on your new pads.
Once you have your new leg pads, you’ll need to make sure they fit you properly. To do so, you’ll need to put the pads on with your skates. There a couple things to do to check size, once you have the pads on:
1. Stand straight and bring your feet together. This will show you the overall height of the pad, while on. Your pads should not be taller than your hips. Ideally you want the top of your pad at the half-way point of your thighs. A pad fitted for a young growing goaltender can be a little taller, so a little above the half-way point is normal.
2. Next you want to get in your stance, keep your hands in a ready position, and drop to your butterfly. Without moving your legs to correct your butterfly, bring your heels together. This is where you assess your knee position. For a proper fit, you want the middle of your knee to sit directly on the center of the knee stack. If you’re looking for growing room, you want the middle of your knee to land roughly 1.5” below the center of the knee stack (1” for JR).

Not getting a complete seal while in your butterfly?
If you're having trouble getting a full seal in your new pads, it may be the way you’re strapping them up. Make sure your boot strap and top straps (above knee) are loosened up a bit. The reason you want these straps loose is because they have a direct effect on the rotation of the pad. Having a loose boot strap makes it easy for your foot and ankle to rotate as the pad moves. Same goes for the top straps, as you don't want them pulling down too hard on the thigh rise.
