The same guard in the junior size.
The Shock Doctor Pro is a boil-and-bite mouthguard, and the one most players start with. It arrives as a blank you shape yourself in hot water, so the finished guard holds the shape of your own teeth rather than an average mouth. Senior and junior sizes are offered, both in black.
Construction is multi-layer, with a shock-absorbing bumper across the front. The layers are what let the guard give a little while still holding its moulded shape, and the bumper is the thicker section that sits in front of the upper teeth.
Fitting takes about ten minutes with a pot of water and a mirror. The full method is in the How to Size tab: boil the water, take it off the heat, soak the guard for 75 seconds, line it up on the upper teeth, then bite down and suck in hard for 20 seconds. Cool it under the tap, put it back in and check the fit. If it is not right, you can reheat and do it again.
A sensible pick for players who want a guard moulded to their own mouth, and for parents fitting a junior guard at the kitchen counter.
Fitting: Boil and bite
Construction: Multi-layer with a shock-absorbing front bumper
Sizes: Senior, Junior
Colour: Black
Two sizes: senior and junior. The guard is a blank until you fit it, so the shape comes from your own teeth.
Fitting method: put 3 to 4 inches of water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Take the pan off the heat, let it stand for 30 seconds, then put the guard in for 75 seconds and no longer than 90. Lift it out with a slotted spoon and cool it under the tap for a second or two. Lick your lips, line the guard up with the middle of your upper teeth in a mirror, and press it into the molars first and then the front teeth. Bring your lower jaw up into the base of the guard, bite down hard, suck in strongly, and press the edges into your teeth and gum line through your lips and cheeks for 20 seconds. Remove it, cool it under the tap for 30 seconds, then put it back in and check for a firm fit. Repeat the whole process if the fit is not accurate.
Store the guard in a case and rinse it under hot water after use. If you wash it with soap, rinse it thoroughly before wearing it again.
