Bought the "junior" sized one (GRIT calls it the 36", medium) as the 40" senior one can't fit in my coupe. It holds medium/small senior sized gear with minimal hassle. Everything fits, and I mean all my senior sized gear (CCM 34+1 pads strapped to the bag, and inside: size 9 goal skates, large mask, glove and blocker, medium chest, and small pants, plus a set of medium padded baselayers, two 25" goalie sticks, jock, goal cup, neck guard, pucks, hockey tape, and all the spare parts).
Even when packed to the brim, it always seems like there's more room to stuff something in. Because the organization is so great in the sense that everything has a spot, it's nearly impossible to forget something. Perhaps if you play with XL senior sized stuff, then it will begin to feel tight and the 40" bag would be a good option, but I think for the medium sized senior goalie or younger, you can't go wrong.
Expensive, yeah! Bulky, hell yeah! Very organized like a closet on wheels. Every piece of gear has its own compartment. Makes getting dressed and packing so much quicker. With a traditional bag you have to unload everything, take up space in the locker room and then get dressed. With the Sumo bag you just grab each item as needed. Leg pads attach on the outside with the bungie cords, it would be nice if they were covered. Also I wish the glove/blocker shelf was a bit taller.
Love it so far. Lots of room for goalie gear. No more bending over and rummaging through a disorganized bag! My back is so appreciative. I plan to have my son grow with this bag, will hold his gear for several years (he is 7). It has that much room in it. The stick holder is a nice tough I was unaware of when I purchased the bad. Only thing I would add would be telescoping handle. I often bump the sticks into my backside when rolling into the rink. Have to remember to stand on the correct side or have son carry the sticks. Not a deal breaker by any stretch. Loving the bag so far.
