The CCM YTFlex 3 is a youth goalie catcher, built for kids learning to play the position on ice. The whole glove is set up around one idea: a young goalie has to be able to close it. The palm comes in CCM's Game Ready stiffness, so the glove shuts without a fight from the first skate instead of needing a season of work.
The break angle is 591, a relatively open angle that helps a goalie pick pucks out of the air rather than relying on a deep trap. Inside, a single straight tee pocket gives a big target to aim the glove at, and the inner palm is felt and foam to take the sting out of a shot. The cuff and thumb are one piece, which closes the gap between them and adds coverage on the part of the glove a young goalie is most likely to get hit on.
Regular or full right
Regular means the catcher goes on the left hand, which is how most goalies play. Full Right means it goes on the right hand. Pick by the hand the glove sits on, not the hand holding the stick.
This suits youth goalies in minor hockey, and parents who want a glove their kid can actually use. The How to Size tab has the hand measurement for each size.
Cuff / thumb: One piece
Break angle: 591
Palm stiffness: Game Ready
Pocket: Single straight tee
Inner palm: Felt and foam
Hand: Regular (worn on the left hand) or Full Right (worn on the right hand)
Catcher size comes from measuring the heel of your palm to the tip of your middle finger. Youth covers about 4" to 5". Junior runs 5" to 6", intermediate 6" to 7", and senior 7" to 8", with the largest palms usually landing in a senior XL.
A new catcher is stiff. It softens through a normal break-in, or we can bake it in our in-house convection skate ovens. Do not try that in a kitchen oven; the results are unpredictable and it can damage the glove. Once it is on, check that the palm lines up inside the glove so it closes without excessive force, and that the adjustable wrist strap sits across the wrist bone without fighting the chest protector.
For a growing goalie, size to the measurement rather than sizing up. An oversized glove costs a young goalie control, and bigger catchers take more hand strength to close.
