The CCM Super Tacks AS1 hockey skate is the latest top-end skate from CCM's Super Tacks line. CCM re-engineered the AS1 boot design with the end goal being an enhanced fit, reduced weight, and improved energy transfer. To build off last years successful release, CCM aimed to tweak and streamline a winning formula to create a superior skate. CCM has found new ways to cut additional weight by removing the CCM jewel and excess leather around the eyelets. CCM also improved durability by changing the carbon composite lamination process and also adding an abrasion bumper to the forefoot area.

The Monoframe 360 carbon composite boot is a one-piece construction that is a cut above the traditional two-piece boot & outsole construction. Allowing for a better foot-to-skate contact giving the player the advantage of having a better fit, and higher energy transfer throughout their stride. The AS1 carries the full one-piece carbon composite boot with a fully anatomical shaped fit running through to the toe cap but has made a change in the volume. CCM has increased the boot height proportioned to each size offering a more comfortable fit, tighter heel lock, and a better performing boot.

CCM has made an upgrade to the liner from the Super Tacks TotalDri liner to a TotalDri Pro liner. The upgrade offers a more durable liner that wicks moisture and sweat away from the boot. With the combination of the vent hole rather the exhaust system from the previous Super Tacks, the two working together keeps the boot lightweight and keep your feet feeling dry for longer.

Another upgrade that CCM has incorporated in the new Super Tacks AS1 is the tongue. CCM has used the same design and technology they have put into the CCM Jetspeed FT1 tongue. The Tritech construction featured on the FT1 skate allows the tongue to molded around the player's feet and ankles. In addition to changing the construction of the tongue, a molded lace bite protection added to the front of the felt provides another barrier from the laces and offers better comfort.

On the inside of the boot, multi-density memory foam has been placed asymmetrically to wrap around the player's foot anatomically. New smooth contour pro pad wraps around the top of the boot to relieve stress the skates press upon the leg above the ankle. The new smooth contour pro pads in the Super Tacks AS1 had become softer over the Super Tacks stiffer contour pads, allowing for more comfort in the overall boot.

A SpeedBlade holder provides 4mm of extra height from the ice to allow for up to 10% greater turning radius for a more aggressive angle of attack and the SpeedBlade Black steel provides a carbon oxide coating to cut the ice with less friction and provide a longer lasting sharpening as well as advanced performance.

With releasing the latest Jetspeed FT1 and the upcoming release of the Super Tacks AS1, CCM has made a big push to make the fit its focus. CCM has teamed up with TechMed3D to use a scanning process for more accurate foot analysis, model recognition and the option to go custom process that's taken CCM to the next stage in fitting high-end hockey skates.

Hockey Player Skate Sizing Guide

    Things to consider:
  • Age
  • Measurement from longest point of foot (cm)

When sizing for the correct size of a skate, we always advise taking the measurements below from a sitting position and not standing upright. Additional weight on your foot/feet can skew your result and misrepresent your foot size. The reason for this is that as you put your full weight on your feet, the arch of your foot will collapse and cause your foot to appear wider or longer than it actually is.

As well, please be aware that skate sizes and shoes sizing do not match exactly. As a general guideline, skates size 1 ½ sizes smaller than shoes.

It is ideal for a player to have a tight, snug fit both in length and width as this will provide the best performance and durability. If a skate is too big you will feel your feet slide around and you will not get the full performance out of the skates and can also develop calcium deposits - Haglund’s Deformity or “Bauer Bumps” for lack of a better term although this issue doesn’t only occur with Bauer models.

An Ideal Fit: Stand with your skates laced and your heel snug in the heel cup. Your toes should just barely feather the end of the toe box. Bend forward into a skating stance. Your toes should pull back slightly from the toe box. Once heat fit, your foot should slide back into the foams of the skate and the length you felt in your skating stance will more-or-less become you standing size.

To obtain the measurement above you will need a soft tape measure and a pen. Start by placing the tape measure flat along the ground in a straight line. Sitting in a chair, place your foot down with the longest point of your foot (usually big toe, or second toe) in line with the edge of the tape measure. Make sure you keep your weight off of your foot. Take a pen and mark the tape measure where the edge of your heel ends. Record this length in cm. This measurement will correspond with the sizing charts in each brand below, if you do not see your exact measurement, select the size with the next size increment above your measurement (i.e. you measure 24.9 cm, you would select 25.1 cm or Size 6).

Sizing Children for Growth Room: If you are purchasing skates for your child, it is common and usually recommended to add some additional room in the skate to increase the last, we recommend no more than 1 full size. Feet stop growing around ages 15 – 15 ½, and from ages 14 - 15 ½ we would recommend adding only half (1/2) a size in length. Follow the same measurement instructions as above, once you obtain your true size move up ½ or 1 size.

***Sizing of skates is very preference based and these measurements will not guarantee a fit that is right for you. Please use these as general guidelines, for the most accurate fit we always recommend getting measured by a professional skate fitter at our store or your local pro shop.***
