Editor's Full Product Review
"Inspired by the challenges young goalies face when first stepping into the crease, CCM developed the Phenom line as a true junior-specific gear setup—not just a scaled-down version of pro models. From the flexible pad core and tailored strapping to the lightweight materials and game-ready glove closure, every element of Phenom was designed with learning and development in mind."
Intro & New Features
Every goalie loves the feeling of a big glove save, and with its deep pocket and easy to close design, young goalies will get that feeling over and over again with the Phenom goalie catcher. It has a comfortable and responsive fit, plus a new software construction that is ready for action as soon as the puck drops.
External Material
The catcher is covered with CCM’s Speedskin material, which can also be found on the leg pads. This is a light synthetic leather that’s lighter than traditional JenPro with a more consistent look and feel. Speedskin on the catcher does not have the same amount of slide as it does on the leg pads, so you can be assured you will still have elite-level control of the puck.
Break Angle
The Phenom catcher uses a 580 break angle. The original 580 catcher break angle is characterized by a more open and rounded shape when the glove is closed and offers a wider catching surface, which is often preferred by goaltenders who prioritize a more natural feel and want a larger pocket to catch the puck with greater ease.
Pocket Design
This catcher uses a reinforced single T design. This provides a snappy closure and the reinforced construction helps maintain its pocket shape for longer. The full hand closure provides goalies with more control of the glove, making saves easier. The pocket works well with the 580 break to provide increased surface area for catching and puck retention.
Strapping
The hand sits nicely in the catcher and is held together with a crossform strap with an adjustable fit. This keeps the hand in place while making saves, restricting any unwanted movements that could lead to potential injury. The comfortable and responsive feel along the palm have added comfort mesh fingers stalls to keep the hands protected and secured from impacts.
Cuff Design
The CCM Phenom catcher features a flexmotion cuff, which is a layered design of protection to provide a great range of motion with full coverage from impacts. The catcher also features a litcore construction which provides a lightweight and balanced design and is shaped to corral pucks into the pocket.
Palm & Liner
The Phenom catcher comes with a hexa palm which has a new textured design for increased control and comfort while goalies make saves with their glove. It also features a game-ready fit with layered foam protection for an easy break in process and better puck absorption.
Sizes & Colors
The CCM Phenom Junior Goalie Catcher is available in a regular and full-right catch option in colors: Detroit, Navy/White, Toronto, White/Black, Black, and White.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
- Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
- Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
