CCM has produced new protective gear at the recreational level in 2026. The CCM Next line is designed to be a reliable, durable, and protective line of hockey gear at the recreational level. The Next line is built to be lightweight and keep players cool and dry on the ice, while still providing players with protection from impacts. The elbow pads feature a two-piece construction, PE foam with PE inserts, and PE caps with a JDP construction.
Construction
These elbow pads are designed with a 2-piece construction. This is built for comfort and protection and it allows the strap system to keep your elbow pad in place as you move on the ice.
Forearm Protection
For the protection in the forearms, CCM added PE foam along with PE inserts. The integration of the foam provides a layer of solid protection against impacts, reducing the chance of injuries, with the PE inserts reinforce the padding and act as a secondary layer of protection. The sublimated lining also provides great lightweight protection around the forearm.
Elbow Caps
The elbows are protected through the JDP construction with PE caps and a comfort donut hole. This JDP construction is designed to disperse impact force away from the elbow joint and keep players covered, while comfort and the fit of these elbow pads are enhanced by the donut padding.
Bicep Protection
CCM designed the Next elbow pads to have an articulated bicep with molded PE plastic inserts to protect the biceps. This allows the padding to shield the biceps from impacts so that players' chances of getting injured are reduced. The sublimated lining and slip-on elastic sleeve construction allow for great comfort and mobility.
Strapping System
The CCM Next elbow pads feature a simplified three-strap system. This design keeps the elbow pad in place and allows players to tailor the fit to their needs while providing comfortability.

Hockey Elbow Pads Sizing Information
When fitting or trying on elbow pads, there are a few things to look at to make sure you have a proper fit. To start, make sure your elbow is placed in the center of cup or designated area and fasten the elbow pad using the straps. You will want to make sure that elbow pad is snug and secure and will not slip off the elbow joint. As well, move your arms around with each pad on, range of motion is key, and you will feel mobility differences in each product. If the elbow pad is too big it will shift and slide around on your arm. If it is too small your elbow will feel like it is sitting above the pad.
Elbow pad strapping is semi-adjustable, so if you find a pad that you like the feel of on your arm, adjust the straps until it fits securely. If the strapping feels too tight against your arm and you are unable to loosen it further, this is a good sign that you may need a bigger size. As well if you have fully tightened the strapping and the elbow pad is still loose or shifting on your arm, a size down will probably work better.
When looking at different elbow pads, there are a variety of different features to choose from. Some models will be offered in a soft elbow cap (although this is becoming more uncommon) and other will come with a hard plastic shell. As well, strapping systems can change and straps such as anchor straps or lock strap with provide a better lock to the pad than a regular elastic strap.
