While the CCM Jetspeed FT4 JR Hockey Shoulder Pads are technically considered the “model down” from the FT4 Pro, they offer the best value for a pro level protection in a shoulder pad that is also super lightweight.
The FT4 should pad utilizes more molded plastic than the FT4 Pro. While plastic adds a bit more weight, it ultimately provides a higher level of protection. The FT4 fits great and has a great feel off the shelf while providing serious mobility. In summary, it packs in a lot of features to give you the best bang for your buck.
Shoulder Caps & Protection
The FT4 shoulder pads have a low profile design that keeps everything tight to the body. This body wrapping design improves freedom of movement and is especially noticeable during large movements like slapshots. The gear moves with you instead of bunching or bulking up. Not only does it create a terrific range of motion, but the protective pieces keep the skater covered at all times.
The FT4 junior shoulder pads use pro-level JDP (Joint Dispersing Protection) caps. JDP caps have always been one of the best at protecting the shoulder by dispersing heavy impacts away from the shoulder joint.
Working in conjunction with the JDP shoulder caps are floating clavicle protectors that are reinforced with molded plastic inserts.
Sternum Protection
The new Hybrid Shield Sternum uses a combination of hard HDPE plastic and PE foam to offer high caliber protection while keeping a low profile. The new sternum design doesn’t add any weight or bulk, but ensures this key area is well protected.
Spine Protection
The new Hybrid Shield Spine and Neck Comfort Pad mirrors the Hybrid Shield Sternum with a combination of HDPE plastic and PE foam. The neck comfort pad allows for full movement without any pressure points when keeping your head on the swivel.
Bicep Protection
The bicep guards on the FT4 allow for a great range of motion without sacrificing protection. These plastic molded bicep guards are perfectly curved to hug the bicep. To get the fit perfectly dialled in, you can adjust the FT4 bicep guard length with a Velcro strap beneath the shoulder cap.
Liner
The FT4 liner is a soft-feel laminated layer that wicks away sweat and offers long lasting comfort and dries out quickly between ice-times.
Abdominal Protection Piece
The vented Flex Motion Base Jacket does the heavy lifting in terms of protection. While the FT4 Pro uses Zotefoam, the FT4 uses PE foam. Extremely lightweight foams wrap around the torso to provide additional coverage in the upper chest, oblique and lower back areas. The removable belly pad allows you to customize the fit depending on your individual build.

Hockey Shoulder Pads Sizing Information
Sizing before Purchase
To fit for a properly sized shoulder pad, you will need a soft tape measurer to measure and record your chest measurement. To do this, find the widest point of your chest (usually just below your armpits) and measure the circumference. Record the measurement in inches and compare to the available sizing charts in each brand. Also compare your height, weight and age to find your best fit.
Sizing after Purchase
Once you have received your new shoulder pad, stand in front of a mirror and strap them on. You will want to check the follow criteria to ensure a proper and protective fit.
1. The tips of your shoulder are sitting directly under the middle of the shoulder cap. If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap.
- This is important because if the shoulder cap does not sit in the correct position, your clavicles, shoulders, and upper arms can become more susceptible to injury.
- Adjust the bicep guards using the Velcro straps located underneath the shoulder caps (if applicable). At the highest point, the bicep guards should not be more than halfway down the upper arm. This is important because they can interfere with your elbow pads, throwing off the fit.
If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap and not directly in line with the middle.
