The 2019 CCM Control Senior Hockey Skate features more than a few NHL calibre options and provides terrific value for high performance skaters. The most exciting upgrade is the new XS holder system built with bladelock technology for simple and quick blade swaps. The Control skate also features key upgrades such as CCM’s TotalDri Pro liner, brass top eyelets and the SpeedBlade XS1 Black + 2mm steel runners. With many elite materials and technologies passed down from previous Jetspeed generations, the 2019 Control Hockey Skate is an excellent option for those playing competitive hockey.
The 2019 CCM Control Senior Hockey Skate is a special make up product with upgrades exclusive to Source for Sports locations. The base model is the CCM FT480 and the skate features upgrades from the FT490 and FT2 models.
Boot Construction
The 3D-Lasted composite provides an ergonomic boot shape which allows your heel to lock in and securely fit into the boot by pre-forming the boot in three dimensions. The two-piece composite boot also provides a noticeable reduction in weight from traditional quarter package technologies while maintaining the skates price-point.
Fit Profile
CCM’s Jetspeed line is built with a tapered fit in mind. The forefoot is slightly narrow and the heels/ankle area is narrow and anatomical.
Tongue
The TriTech felt tongue is the perfect balance between a traditional felt and new lightweight tech. Not too thick so it allows the boot wraps nicely around your foot but thick enough to provide comfort and prevent lace-bite. The molded reinforcement layer down the front of the top five eyelets increases comfort and protection without sacrificing forward flexion.
The medium density overlay is about 3mm near the top two eyelets and tapers down to 0.5mm near the top of the forefoot. An added bonus for the Control line is the bright red FT2 cosmetics that add a bit of flash.
Liner
CCM’s TotalDri Pro liner is a softer felt-like material that is comfortable and dries out quickly between ice times. The tendon guard area has a smooth grey clarino material that provides additional durability to a high wear area. The Control also has Durazone abrasion protection applied to the top two eyelets for even more durability where the tongue can create the most friction with the liner.
Comfort Pad
The Smooth Contour comfort pad is the soft padding located at the top collar of the boot and is a big improvement over previous models. When cutting hard on tight radius turns, this padding will help prevent the boot from biting into your foot.
Ankle Padding
Multi-density memory foam on either side of the players ankles provides customized fit and comfort. These symmetrical pads wrap around the foot’s ankle bones to help lock in the foot for stability and hug the contours of the foot with a soft foam to prevent pain points.
Outsole
The Control skate has an extra stiff composite outsole with a single exhaust port for ventilation. This is the same outsole we’ve seen in previous high end CCM skates before they moved to the seamless one-piece boot.
Holder
SpeedBlade XS is a quick-release holder with bladelock system that makes steel changes super easy. The lock dial mechanism tightly secures the steel to the holder, which ultimately should translate into better energy transfer when skating.
Full steel swap instructions are included inside the skate box.
Steel
SpeedBlade XS1 Black +2mm is made of high quality stainless steel to provide a long lasting edge. The +2mm version offers additional blade height for longer sharpening life and steeper attack angles. The black oxide treatment provides a harder runner with a longer edge life and excellent resistance to corrosion.
Full steel swap instructions are included inside the skate box.
Insoles
The Control skate features CCM’s anatomical response footbed. The medium density foam insole has contoured edges to cup the heel of the foot and is ventilated to keep your feet cool and dry.
Remove insoles from the skate after each ice time to ensure the skate boot dries completely.
Heat Moldable
The Control features symmetrical multi-density memory foams that heat mold easily and will provide customized fit and comfort. The Rocketframe Composite boot also offers excellent moldability. The combination of foams and composite materials ensures this skate provides comfort out of the box and short break-in periods.
Full heating instructions are included inside the skate box.

Hockey Player Skate Sizing Guide
- Things to consider:
- Age
- Measurement from longest point of foot (cm)
When sizing for the correct size of a skate, we always advise taking the measurements below from a sitting position and not standing upright. Additional weight on your foot/feet can skew your result and misrepresent your foot size. The reason for this is that as you put your full weight on your feet, the arch of your foot will collapse and cause your foot to appear wider or longer than it actually is.
As well, please be aware that skate sizes and shoes sizing do not match exactly. As a general guideline, skates size 1 ½ sizes smaller than shoes.
It is ideal for a player to have a tight, snug fit both in length and width as this will provide the best performance and durability. If a skate is too big you will feel your feet slide around and you will not get the full performance out of the skates and can also develop calcium deposits - Haglund’s Deformity or “Bauer Bumps” for lack of a better term although this issue doesn’t only occur with Bauer models.
An Ideal Fit: Stand with your skates laced and your heel snug in the heel cup. Your toes should just barely feather the end of the toe box. Bend forward into a skating stance. Your toes should pull back slightly from the toe box. Once heat fit, your foot should slide back into the foams of the skate and the length you felt in your skating stance will more-or-less become you standing size.
To obtain the measurement above you will need a soft tape measure and a pen. Start by placing the tape measure flat along the ground in a straight line. Sitting in a chair, place your foot down with the longest point of your foot (usually big toe, or second toe) in line with the edge of the tape measure. Make sure you keep your weight off of your foot. Take a pen and mark the tape measure where the edge of your heel ends. Record this length in cm. This measurement will correspond with the sizing charts in each brand below, if you do not see your exact measurement, select the size with the next size increment above your measurement (i.e. you measure 24.9 cm, you would select 25.1 cm or Size 6).
Sizing Children for Growth Room: If you are purchasing skates for your child, it is common and usually recommended to add some additional room in the skate to increase the last, we recommend no more than 1 full size. Feet stop growing around ages 15 – 15 ½, and from ages 14 - 15 ½ we would recommend adding only half (1/2) a size in length. Follow the same measurement instructions as above, once you obtain your true size move up ½ or 1 size.
***Sizing of skates is very preference based and these measurements will not guarantee a fit that is right for you. Please use these as general guidelines, for the most accurate fit we always recommend getting measured by a professional skate fitter at our store or your local pro shop.***
