The CCM Composite Butt End is a 4-inch plug that glues into the open top of a stick shaft to add length. The hollow end of a shaft has a shape to it, and this butt end comes in two of them: an R end for senior sticks and an I end for intermediate sticks. Pick the one that matches the stick you are extending and it seats cleanly instead of rocking or jamming part way down.
A butt end does two jobs. It fills the open shaft end so the top of the stick is solid under your top hand, and it gives you extra length to work with. Composite is the usual choice for that because it adds the length without putting much weight at the butt of the stick, which is where a player notices weight most.
It measures 4 inches, so that is the most it will add, and it can be cut shorter before you glue it in. Once it has set, taping over the joint and building a knob on top is the normal finish. It suits senior and intermediate players who need a little more stick, whether that is a player who has grown or someone who trimmed a shaft further than they planned.
