CCM updated their Axis 2 catcher for 2022 with a 15% weight reduction, among various other and brand new tech to fit the playstyle of the classic butterfly goalie. The glove employs D3O foam, LiteCore, Flexmotion 2 tech, and the highly anticipated 591 glove break to bring you the best performance and results.
External Material
Just as the original Axis catcher did, the Axis 2 trapper uses D3O Speed Skin for superior maneuverability and military-grade protection. Speed Skin is incredibly lightweight, and the game-ready fit makes it easy to break the glove in quickly. The molded Flexmotion 2 backhand offers amazing mobility while keeping your glove hand fully protected.
Break Angle
The Axis 2 is equipped with the classic 590 glove break angle, particularly optimized for better closure, feel, and responsiveness for the butterfly goalie. Of the break angles on the market, this break feels the most like a baseball glove. This angle requires binding the tips of the fingertips to meet the thumb in order to close the glove. It is always good to test all break angles and how they feel before deciding if an angle or style is right for you.
Pocket Design
The pocket uses a double straight T design for better visibility and depth on the catch. This kind of style is nice for the butterfly goalie, who often has to make decisions at odd angles; the easier it is to track and funnel the puck into the catcher, the easier it will be to make those clutch saves across the crease.
Palm
The palm liner uses Dura Palm material with AX Suede SureGrip liner along the inside. The liner is treated with Polygiene and Odor Crunch to keep your glove hand feeling dry and fresh throughout your game. CCM has reintroduced LiteCore technology into the catcher’s injection molded palm, which is amazingly light and snappy to further enhance the 590 break angle. With the extra D3O protection in the palm, you can feel assured of your hand’s security.
Strapping
The new Cross Form strap was designed specifically to augment that bond between your hand and the trapper. Coupled with the Form Fit fingers, the trapper has gained an even better fit and feel overall throughout the hand.
Cuff Design
The single-piece cuff uses a Flexmotion 2 design, meaning the cuff has been built to flex strategically in certain areas to keep it both highly flexible and very protective.

The CCM Axis 2 Senior Goalie Catcher comes in sizes 33+1, 34+1, 34+2, and 35+2, and the following colourways: White, White/Black/Silver, White/Royal/Red, White/Royal, White/Red, White/Black, and Black.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
- Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
- Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
