CCM launches and relaunches both brand new and returning tech in their updated Axis 2.9 goalie catcher for 2022. The new catcher features LiteCore in the thumb and cuff constructions, a Cross Form strap, Speed Skin, Form Fit fingers, Flexmotion 2, and the highly anticipated 591 glove break to bring you the best performance and results. The Source Exclusive version of the Axis 2.9 goalie glove features a Single-T pocket with skate lace webbing, D3O enhanced palm, as well as unique color options that are different than what's offered in the CCM catalog.
External Material
Over the exterior of the Axis 2.9 catcher, CCM uses its traditional Speed Skin material for amazing maneuverability. Speed Skin is incredibly lightweight, and the game-ready fit makes it easy to break the glove in quickly. The HD foam Flexmotion 2 backhand offers amazing mobility while keeping your glove hand fully protected.
Break Angle
The Axis 2.9 debuts the brand new 591 glove break angle, particularly optimized for better closure, feel, and responsiveness for the butterfly goalie. When first trialling the glove, you may notice that it feels and closes very similarly to the 590 break, which is no coincidence. The 591 break is modelled after the 590 break with some modifications made along the inside and over the outward constructions.
Pocket Design
The source exclusive Axis 2.9 pocket uses a Single-T design, which is different than the catalog model. The webbing in the pocket also features skate lace, whereas the catalog version features nylon string. The source exclusive Axis 2.9 model features upgraded D3O smart material.
Palm
The SureGrip palm is reminiscent of the materials used often in pro and high-level gear for players and goalies alike. It is a grippy, synthetic fabric that offers comfort, great performance, and amazing responsiveness.
Strapping
The new Cross Form strap was designed specifically to augment that bond between your hand and the trapper. Coupled with the Form Fit fingers, the trapper has gained an even better fit and feel overall throughout the hand.
Cuff Design
The single-piece cuff uses a Flexmotion 2 design, meaning the cuff has been built to flex strategically in certain areas to keep it both highly flexible and very protective.
Colors & Customization
The Source Exclusive CCM Axis 2.9 Senior Goalie Catcher comes in Regular and Full Right orientations, and the following colourways: Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, White, White/White/Black/Black, and Black.

Excellent service and speedy delivery
Coming from a Warrior G4 glove this one feels a lot different. The new 591 angle feels more like a 580ish to me. Obviously it's not a 90 degree angle but still, quite different compared to a 590. I do like it be honest. I only played one game so far with it, my fingers aren't molded in the foam yet. I don't mind having no finger stalls.
It is a different feeling for sure. Also the glove closes a lot better after being baked than my old CCM E3.9. If you're looking for a good glove at half the price of a Pro, I'd say go for it.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
- Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
- Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
