The Brian’s OPTiK 2 Pro senior goal pads are designed to withstand any abuse the elite level goaltender can throw at them. Hand made of Brian’s premium leather wrapped around their durable yet lightweight Engineered Foam, the OPTiK 2 is Brian’s lightest pad currently on the market. Utilizing a combination of their OPTiSLIDE Technology, their Primo slide surface and a binding-less inner gusset, the OPTiK 2 slides extremely quickly and smoothly while remaining controllable and stable when performing on-ice transitions and driving into the butterfly. A stiff flex profile, hard face and soft boot make the OPTiK 2 a comfortable, usable pad for a wide variety of goalies. The large nylon knee block and calf wrap lined with Brian’s AirKnit mesh along with Primo found in the high wear areas work to make the OPTiK 2 a durable option. Finally, the use of Brian’s Smart Strap velcro strapping system provides a customizable fit while sticking to the theme of lightweight comfort. As with all pro level Brian’s pads, the OPTiK 2 is available in custom colours, sizing and graphics allowing goalies to design the exact pad they’re looking for.
External Material
The Brian’s name is synonymous for quality and the OPTiK 2 is no exception to that. Brian’s hand builds each pad using a durable leather to hold up to pro caliber abuse. The sliding surface of the pad uses their OPTiSLIDE Technology along with their durable, slick Primo material providing goalies with a smooth quick slide with minimal effort. The back of the pad is lined with their premium nylon material while the leg channel features their Air-Knit mesh in order to increase air flow and breathability. Primo is also used in the high wear areas such as the boot and upper binding in order to extend the lifespan of the pads. New for the OPTiK 2 line, Brian’s uses Polymesh accents to reduce weight while giving the pad a sleek, rich look.
Internal Construction
Brian’s uses their proprietary E-Foam Technology to make the OPTiK 2 not only the lightest pad they offer but one of the lighter options on the market. A streamlined outer roll reduces weight and interference, making it easier for goalies to get tight to the post and improve visibility when tracking pucks in close to the pads. The new MAX core utilizes an ultra hard foam giving pucks a fast, lively feel coming off the face of the pad. They use OPTiSLIDE Technology on the inner landing area and sliding edge of the OPTiK Pro 2 pad which is an extra hard foam that gives the pad an extremely balanced feel when performing on-ice movements and when in the butterfly as well as even better slide performance compared to previous generation Brian’s pads.
Pad Break
One of the biggest standout features of the OPTiK series is the flex profiles that they provide. Going further than a single or double break design like many other traditional pads, the flex zones of the OPTiK change the entire flex profile of the pad. Just like the OPTiK, FLY and FLX are still around, but new for the OPTiK 2 is the MAX flex profile. The FLX is best designed for hybrid goaltenders that are more comfortable with a pad that is flexible throughout. It offers an 80º stock toe taper that maintains versatility. The FLY is better for a goalie that spends their time in the butterfly and offers a stiffer feel above the knee. It also offers a 90º toe taper for a superior seal. The MAX offers an extremely stiff core and an 84º toe taper but still retains the flexible boot for mobility sake.
Knee Cradle
The OPTiK 2 offers a large, open knee cradle with a laced-in, removable outer flap to accommodate even the bulkiest of knee pads. The knee block is lined in Brian’s premium, durable nylon material allowing for easy rotation while maintaining a comfortable feel.
Knee & Thigh Protection
Each set of OPTiK 2 pads comes with a pair of Brian’s G-NETiK Pro 2 knee pads. The thigh of the OPTiK pads has a velcro tab which allows them to attach to the thigh rise in order to keep them from slipping and to allow the knee to be in a more fixed position on the pad.
Strapping
Brian’s has streamlined the calf strapping to a single point attachment Velcro that makes up their OPTiK 2 Wrap. This simplified strapping allows for a consistent tightness as well as weight savings and even faster getting them on. Of course, fan favourites like the Smart Cord Toes and Smart Boot return. The OPTiK 2 also comes with an attachment point for an optional calf strap that provides an anchor point for the pad to rotate around without limiting movement.
Toe Taper
The OPTiK 2 pad comes stock in the MAX core configuration with an 84º toe taper giving the pad the best of both the seal of a 90º toe and the mobility of an 80º toe.
Sizes & Colors
The OPTiK 2 Pro pad will be available in a 32”+1, 33”+1, 34”+1, 35”+1 and 36”+1 in the stock configuration with either an All White, White/Black, White/Black/Red, All Black and Black/White colour options. Additional pad sizes, thigh rise heights, colours and graphics will be available for custom order.

Goalie Leg Pads Sizing
Deciding your Goalie Pads size is crucial for having total control while moving in the crease. Sizing your pads properly is the difference between getting that perfect seal on your butterfly, and feeling clunky or unprotected in the net. Below we have compiled some information to better assist you in deciding which size is right for you.
Ankle-To-Knee Measurement
Your Ankle-To-Knee measurement will give you a good indication as to what "Pad Size" you will need. This measurement can be matched up with the provided sizing chart above.
How to Measure your Ankle-To-Knee
- 1. In your bare feet, place the soft measuring tape at the inside of the inside of your ankle.
2. Slightly bend your knee.
3. Run the soft measuring tape up your shin, to the middle of your knee.
4. Match your Ankle-To-Knee measurement with the provided sizing chart
What to look for when trying on your new pads.
Once you have your new leg pads, you’ll need to make sure they fit you properly. To do so, you’ll need to put the pads on with your skates. There a couple things to do to check size, once you have the pads on:
1. Stand straight and bring your feet together. This will show you the overall height of the pad, while on. Your pads should not be taller than your hips. Ideally you want the top of your pad at the half-way point of your thighs. A pad fitted for a young growing goaltender can be a little taller, so a little above the half-way point is normal.
2. Next you want to get in your stance, keep your hands in a ready position, and drop to your butterfly. Without moving your legs to correct your butterfly, bring your heels together. This is where you assess your knee position. For a proper fit, you want the middle of your knee to sit directly on the center of the knee stack. If you’re looking for growing room, you want the middle of your knee to land roughly 1.5” below the center of the knee stack (1” for JR).
Not getting a complete seal while in your butterfly?
If you're having trouble getting a full seal in your new pads, it may be the way you’re strapping them up. Make sure your boot strap and top straps (above knee) are loosened up a bit. The reason you want these straps loose is because they have a direct effect on the rotation of the pad. Having a loose boot strap makes it easy for your foot and ankle to rotate as the pad moves. Same goes for the top straps, as you don't want them pulling down too hard on the thigh rise.
