The Bauer X cage is a replacement face cage for a hockey helmet, made from high impact carbon steel wire. It sits at the beginner, intermediate and recreational end of the range: full face coverage, simple to live with, nothing exotic.
The wire configuration is laid out to open up sight lines, so the bars fall away from where your eyes track the puck. Every cage is in your field of view, but on this one the gaps land in useful places, both looking down at your feet and up the ice. The wire itself is high impact carbon steel, so it takes puck and stick contact and keeps its shape instead of deforming.
A floating chin cup sits at the bottom. It moves with your jaw rather than clamping against it, which makes the cage easier to wear for a full skate and takes the edge off contact under the chin.
Best for beginner and intermediate players, recreational skaters, and anyone swapping out a cage that has been bent or scratched past the point of seeing through it.
