Intro & New Features
As any hockey goaltender knows, having reliable and high-performance gear is essential for success on the ice. Bauer has taken their renowned Vapor gear and upgraded it for the 2023 season with a combination of new technology, what worked before, and what’s worked in their other gear families. The Vapor X5 Pro catcher features Rebound Control foam padding, a 60-degree break angle, and a double-T pocket design.
External Material
The Vapor X5 Pro is covered with a traditional leather front cover for that classic feel and look. It also uses a Catchlite palm for an excellent combination of comfort, protection, and performance, and the Rebound Control foam padding helps absorb the impact of incoming shots.
Break Angle
The 60-degree break closure is a deeper, more full-hand closure (fingers to the base of the thumb) that we’ve seen before in the Vapor family. It provides a good balance of coverage and mobility. The downward angle of the palm creates a large catching surface that can help goaltenders make catches on high shots, while also allowing for quick, fluid movements when making saves in tight. The angle of the palm is designed to align with the natural curvature of the hand, which can help to reduce stress and fatigue on the wrist and hand over time.
Pocket Design
The Vapor X5 uses a double-T pocket design, which provides a large, secure catching surface—the two-piece construction allows the goaltender to trap the puck between the two sections of the pocket, creating a stable grip on the puck. The double-T pocket design allows for quick and easy release of the puck, and it has a natural "funnel" shape that helps guide the puck toward the goaltender's hand for cleaner and quicker catches.
Strapping
The strapping system on the Vapor series is made of adjustable straps and fasteners that can be configured to achieve the desired level of support, mobility, and comfort. The glove also includes an optimized wrist strap for a more comfortable and adjustable fit, as well as a fully adjustable backhand.
Cuff Design
The Catchlite palm is constructed using a series of layered materials, including high-density foam and a specialized synthetic material that provides a high level of durability, flexibility, and grip. This palm fits seamlessly with the one-piece cuff design for a clean look and excellent protection while helping funnel pucks into the pocket.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you? The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time. *We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need? Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
