Intro & New Features
The Bauer Vapor Velocity Hockey Skates have been exclusively designed for Source For Sports. This skate is ideal for the competitive player looking for performance enhancing features, new technology, and instant comfort all at a lower price.
Skate Fit Profile
Like the HyperLite, the Vapor Velocity features the Performance Skate Fit System as well. The classic D and EE widths have been replaced in this size range by Fit 1, Fit 2, and Fit 3. This may sound confusing, however, this allows you the freedom to wear different options in the Bauer family.
Previously you based your decision on the traditional “Vapor Fit”, “Supreme Fit”, or “Nexus Fit”. Now all 3 skate fits are available to wear with “Supreme Features”, or “Vapor Features”, whichever aligns with your preference. Below is how the new Bauer Skate Fit System compares to previous years’ of Bauer Skates.
- Fit 1 = Low Volume, Narrow width (closest aligned to the Vapor fit profile)
- Fit 2 = Medium Volume, Medium Width (closest aligned to the Supreme fit profile)
- Fit 3 = High Volume, Wide Width (closest aligned to the Nexus fit profile)
Boot Construction & Stiffness Profile
The Velocity features Bauer’s 3D Lasted Flex Composite material. This material has allowed Bauer to reduce the overall weight of the boot. In addition, because this boot is Flex Composite, it will be slightly softer than the 3D lasted Pro Curv Carbon Composite that comes on the X Shift Pro. This Flex Composite material is used to provide good stability while still allowing great ankle flexion. The top of the boot is lined with Comfort Edge Padding to reduce bite when performing stops and aggressive tight turns.
Liner & Internal Padding
The Velocity is designed with a focus on comfort and reduced break-in time. It features a one-piece sublimated liner and memory foam ankle pads. The sublimated liner provides great comfort while wicking away moisture as you sweat. The boot is also designed with a Comfort Edge lined along the top of the boot to stop bites when performing stops and quick turns.
Tongue
Bauer has styled its Velocity tongue to keep the main focus on comfort and performance. The tongue is made to offer a balance of performance, support, and great feel.
Insoles
The Velocity comes with your standard Form Fit footbed. This insole allows your foot to stay secure to the bed of the boot. It also increases the control and blade contact you have while skating.
Blade & Blade Holder
Then Bauer Vapor Velocity skates features a TUUK blade holder, secured into the bottom of the skate and provides a releasable trigger to switch the blades in and out with ease. The lightspeed edge holder ensures that the LS+ steel stays secure while on the ice.

Skate Fit Profile
The Supreme Mach skates come in Bauer’s Fits 1, 2, and 3, which is a relatively new concept that debuted in 2020. This was a great innovation, considering how the three lines, Vapor, Supreme, and Nexus, all historically had their own fits, despite performing differently. Now, those with narrower feet for example can enjoy the powerful stride enhancements that come with the Supreme line. Below is how the Bauer Fit System compares to previous years’ Bauer Skates:
- Fit 1 = Low Volume, Narrow width (closest aligned to the Vapor fit profile)
- Fit 2 = Medium Volume, Medium Width (closest aligned to the Supreme fit profile)
- Fit 3 = High Volume, Wide Width (closest aligned to the Nexus fit profile)
Choosing the right fit profile is a key element in deciding which skate and fit best suits you. Here at The Hockey Shop, we have a team of experts, as well as our very own Bauer 3D scanner that can help you into the correct size and fit to keep you at your best.
Hockey Player Skate Sizing Guide
- Things to consider:
- Age
- Measurement from longest point of foot (cm)
When sizing for the correct size of a skate, we always advise taking the measurements below from a sitting position and not standing upright. Additional weight on your foot/feet can skew your result and misrepresent your foot size. The reason for this is that as you put your full weight on your feet, the arch of your foot will collapse and cause your foot to appear wider or longer than it actually is.
As well, please be aware that skate sizes and shoes sizing do not match exactly. As a general guideline, skate's size 1 - 1 ½ sizes smaller than shoes.
It is ideal for a player to have a tight, snug fit both in length and width as this will provide the best performance and durability. If a skate is too big you will feel your feet slide around and you will not get the full performance out of the skates and can also develop calcium deposits - Haglund’s Deformity or “Bauer Bumps” for lack of a better term although this issue doesn’t only occur with Bauer models.
An Ideal Fit
Stand with your skates laced and your heel snug in the heel cup. Your toes should just barely feather the end of the toe box. Bend forward into a skating stance. Your toes should pull back slightly from the toe box. Once heat fit, your foot should slide back into the foams of the skate and the length you felt in your skating stance will more-or-less become you standing size.
To obtain the measurement above you will need a soft tape measure and a pen. Start by placing the tape measure flat along the ground in a straight line. Sitting in a chair, place your foot down with the longest point of your foot (usually big toe, or second toe) in line with the edge of the tape measure. Make sure you keep your weight off of your foot. Take a pen and mark the tape measure where the edge of your heel ends. Record this length in cm. This measurement will correspond with the sizing charts in each brand below, if you do not see your exact measurement, select the size with the next size increment above your measurement (i.e. you measure 24.9 cm, you would select 25.1 cm or Size 6).
Sizing Children for Growth Room
If you are purchasing skates for your child, it is common and usually recommended to add some additional room in the skate to increase the last, we recommend no more than 1 full size. Feet stop growing around ages 15 – 15 ½, and from ages 14 - 15 ½ we would recommend adding only half (1/2) a size in length. Follow the same measurement instructions as above, once you obtain your true size move up ½ or 1 size.
***Sizing of skates is very preference based and these measurements will not guarantee a fit that is right for you. Please use these as general guidelines, for the most accurate fit we always recommend getting measured by a professional skate fitter at our store or your local pro shop.***
