Intro & New Features
At the competitive level, Bauer is releasing the new Fly40 hockey glove. The glove is complete with various high-end tech to keep your hands quick and agile while you play, including a Poly mesh and PU overlay outer construction, MD foam and PE inserts, and a Taktile palm. A variety of colours and patterns are also included in the design of this level of glove, making it more exciting and fun to play in.
External Material
The Fly40 hockey gloves are covered over the exterior in poly mesh, which is a standard choice for gloves because of its cut resistance and durability. It also has strong moisture-wicking capabilities, which can help you stay dry while you play.
Finger Design & Protection
The gloves are equipped with MD foam and PE shield inserts in the fingers, in addition to a three-piece index finger design. The three-piece design helps enhance flexibility in that finger, allowing for more overall freedom when stickhandling.
Backhand Protection
The backhand is protected with a pre-curved design with HD inserts. This adds layers of foams inside the glove providing protection to players and allowing them to feel secure and protected while on the ice. The pre-curved backhand design offers a natural and comfortable fit, allowing players to maintain mobility and flexibility while wearing the gloves.
Thumb Design
The gloves use a simple, two-piece molded Flex thumb, complete with standard foam and plastic inserts. The two-piece design allows for good maneuverability while keeping your thumb in place. Beyond permitting excellent mobility, it also keeps your thumb from hyperextending, which could otherwise cause injury.
Cuff Design
The cuff roll on the Vapor Fly40 hockey gloves is contoured to fit around your wrist protectively while still allowing for enough movement.
Palm Material & Gussets
The Fly40 glove uses a Taktile sublimated palm in the centre of the glove where the glove comes in most contact with the stick. As the name suggests, the Taktile palm greatly increases grip and feel with the stick. Making this area of the glove more durable as well has been a major focus in modern times as more and more hockey sticks are being developed with more grip. The comfort stretch gussets help keep the fingers malleable enough to move with you and your game.
Liner
The liner in the Fly40 is the same combination of liners that we’ve seen before in previous Vapor glove models: Hypersense and Thermomax+. Hypersense is located in the fingers and provides that desired game-ready feel while Thermomax+ in the backhand area keeps your hands fresher and cooler all game long with its odor and moisture-managing properties.
Sizes & Colors
The Bauer Vapor Fly40 Senior Hockey Gloves are available in sizes 14” and 15”, while also coming in Black/Gold, Black/Orange, Blue, Navy/Gold, Red, Black/Red, Black/White, Black, Navy, and Navy/Red/White.

Bauer Hockey Gloves Sizing Chart

Player Glove Sizing
To ensure you're purchasing the proper sized glove, one simple measurement using a measuring tape is all it takes to accurately find your size. Place the tip of the tape measure at the top of your middle finger (or which finger is longest) and measure all the way down to the bottom of your palm. Record this measurement and multiply by two. This will be roughly the size of glove you need. Compare your height, weight and age to the charts provided on each model as well to find your best fit.
Sizing Hockey Gloves (Growing Players)
If you are including growing room in the glove for a young player, always round the measurement up to the next whole number (ex. 3.2” x 2 = 6.4” -> 7”).
Making Sure Your Hockey Gloves Fit (Growing Players)
To ensure hockey gloves fit properly for a growing hockey player, have them place their hands in the glove with their palms facing up. Have the player place their hand inside the glove as they would if they were wearing the glove in a normal situation. Take your index finger and put it between the top of the player's palm and the edge of the cuff. Typically you want no more room than the width of your index finger.
You also want to have the player press their fingers against the palm so you can see the outlines. Make sure their pinky finger is at least 3/4” of the way into the pinky slot of the glove finger. To determine if the glove is too small, take your fingers and feel along the inner cuff of the glove just after the palm material. Make sure the player’s palm is not spilling over the material and onto the cuff. You also want to look at the fingers of the glove, and make sure the player’s fingers to fit in each finger slot, but they should not be pressed up against the edge or touching the gussets.
Sizing Hockey Gloves (Full-Grown Players)
When sizing for true size (no growth room) using the above measurement, round measurements less than 0.5 down to the next whole number. If the measurement ends in .5 or higher, round up to the nearest whole number.
Making Sure Your Hockey Gloves Fit (Full-Grown Players)
To ensure your hockey gloves fit properly, you want to take a look at two things.
