Intro & New Features
Coming in at a lower price point, Bauer has released the Vapor Fly40 shoulder pads. These shoulder pads carry many key features as previously seen in past Vapor protective lines. It has key features like the X-LITE shield, one-piece Flexprene vest and a new key upgrade this season which is the integrated molded arches. All these features keep the shoulder pads a solid and reliable option without having to break the bank.
Shoulder Caps & Protection
The shoulder caps are low profile and molded to lower wind resistance and make it easier to keep your speed and glide on the ice. They have integrated foams and durable caps to keep the shoulders protected from impacts of all forces.
Sternum Protection
Bauer continues to use the X-LITE shield on the sternum on the Fly40 shoulder pads. This design provides exceptional protection from high impacts keeping players secured, while the sleek design keeps the shoulder pads lightweight.
Spine Protection
The spine is protected with a segmented spine design with PE inserts. The segmented spine is attached to the vest that covers the body, and it covers all the key areas while keeping players protected. The PE inserts are integrated into the back of the shoulder pads and protect players from impacts and not restricting mobility.
Bicep Protection
To keep the biceps protected and secure, Bauer has implemented an adjustable bicep with molded PE foams. The pads sit below the shoulder caps and can be adjusted with a velcro strap ensuring a snug and secure fit. The molded PE foams provide players with protection from impacts, and the comfort sleeve fit keeps the arms in place, without restricting mobility.
Rib Protection
The Fly40 shoulder pads feature a one-piece Flexprene vest and a ventilated panel on the back. The Flexprene vest covers the upper portion of the body and by adjusting it with the velcro straps, players will feel a snug yet secure and protective fit. The ventilated panel on the back also features rib inserts which keeps players protected without restricting movements.
Liner
As seen on previous Vapor shoulder pads, Bauer continues to use the Thermomax sublimated liner. It is designed to repel sweat and odours, keeping your shoulder pads fresher for longer. The liner will also keep you cool and comfortable while you are in your gear.
Sizes
The Bauer Vapor Fly40 Junior Hockey Shoulder Pads are available in sizes Small and Medium.

Hockey Shoulder Pads Sizing Information
Sizing before Purchase
To fit for a properly sized shoulder pad, you will need a soft tape measurer to measure and record your chest measurement. To do this, find the widest point of your chest (usually just below your armpits) and measure the circumference. Record the measurement in inches and compare to the available sizing charts in each brand. Also compare your height, weight and age to find your best fit.
Sizing after Purchase
Once you have received your new shoulder pad, stand in front of a mirror and strap them on. You will want to check the follow criteria to ensure a proper and protective fit.
1. The tips of your shoulder are sitting directly under the middle of the shoulder cap. If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap.
- This is important because if the shoulder cap does not sit in the correct position, your clavicles, shoulders, and upper arms can become more susceptible to injury.
- Adjust the bicep guards using the Velcro straps located underneath the shoulder caps (if applicable). At the highest point, the bicep guards should not be more than halfway down the upper arm. This is important because they can interfere with your elbow pads, throwing off the fit.
If you are checking sizing for a child, it is ok for the tips of their shoulder to be under the inner half of the cap and not directly in line with the middle.
