The Bauer SH1000 is a two-piece street hockey stick for recreational use: a wood shaft with a nylon blade, made for rough surfaces. This one is the right-hand version at 43 inches, a short stick that suits a smaller player or anyone who does not want to cut one down. It is made for street, ball or dek hockey.
The shaft is multi-ply birch, which is why it takes being dropped, leaned on and left in a garage. The nylon blade is strong and stiff, and on pavement that is the part that counts: it slides over asphalt instead of shredding the way a composite ice blade would. Two-piece construction means the blade is set into the shaft, so the stick is simple and inexpensive rather than light.
Length and hand
At 43 inches this is short for an adult, so check the length against the player before buying. Stand in shoes with the toe of the blade on the ground; a stick that reaches between the mouth and the nose is the usual benchmark, and eye level is the maximum for someone still growing. Right hand means the blade is set up for a right-handed shooter, with the left hand at the top of the shaft.
It suits street, ball and dek hockey, and it is the stick to leave by the door so the good ice stick stays inside.
Construction: Two-piece
Shaft: Multi-ply birch wood
Blade: Nylon, strong and stiff
Length: 43"
Hand: Right
Use: Street, ball or dek hockey
Stick length is largely preference. Stand in your shoes with the toe of the blade on the ground; the shaft should reach between your mouth and your nose, and eye level is the maximum for a player who is still growing. At 43" this is a short stick for an adult, so compare it to the player before buying. A stick can be cut down, and it gets stiffer by about 3% for every inch removed.
