Intro & New Features
As any hockey goaltender knows, having reliable and high-performance gear is essential for success on the ice. Bauer has released the new Reactor line with a combination of recently introduced technology, what worked before, and what’s worked in their other gear families. The Reactor R5 Pro blocker features a DuraConnekt palm, Shocklite foam and shields, and molded F1 along the side plate.
External Material
The Reactor R5 Pro is covered with a traditional leather front cover for that classic feel and look.
Internal Construction
Shocklite is a specialized foam material that is used in Bauer hockey equipment, including the Reactor R5 Pro. The foam material in the blocker board is designed to help cushion the impact of the puck as it hits, reducing the force of the rebound and minimizing the risk of injury to the goaltender's hand. The material is also extremely lightweight for more efficient and easier arm movements.
Palm Material
The Duraconnekt palm on the Reactor Pro is made from a combination of durable synthetic materials, including nylon and polyester, which are engineered to withstand the wear and tear of frequent use. This additionally makes the palm more resistant to abrasions, tears, and other types of damage, helping extend the life of the blocker. The Duraconnekt palm also provides excellent grip, thanks to its textured surface, helping goalies maintain a secure hold on their stick throughout the game.
Side Hand Protection
Bauer has incorporated molded F1 into the side plate of the Reactor Pro blocker. By molding the foam into a more contoured shape around the hand, Bauer is able to create a customized fit that provides better protection and support for the goaltender. The molded foam design is more streamlined and ergonomic, intending to improve the goalie’s mobility and flexibility.
Cuff
The low-profile, molded cuff has been designed to focus on giving the goalie an enhanced range of motion, so they can make quick and easy movements and more saves to keep their team in the game. Additionally, the design of the cuff helps to protect the goalie's hand and wrist, reducing the risk of injury. Bauer also employs the use of Aerolite in this blocker, which is a foam made from polyethylene, EVA, and other advanced polymers, and it is engineered to be both lightweight and highly durable.
Hand Protection
The fingers have been reinforced with Shocklite Shields in the Reactor R5 Pro. Shocklite is designed to be lightweight and flexible, allowing for greater mobility and comfort while also providing excellent impact protection. It absorbs and disperses impact energy, making it easier to make saves with confidence.
Colors & Customization
The Bauer Reactor R5 Pro Senior blocker comes in the following colourways: White/Black, White/Blue, and White/Red.

Goalie Blockers Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Blocker is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Blocker provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Blocker Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Blocker size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Blocker Fit
It is important to ensure that the fingers tips lie close to the seam of the palm, or within 0.5” if the Blocker is for a young growing goaltender. Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector. You also want to ensure that the goalie can maintain control of their stick in addition to being able to maneuver the blocker when handling the puck.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Blocker can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Blocker Hands Simplified
- Regular - Blocker worn on your Right Hand
- Full Right - Blocker worn on your Left Hand
