Bauer has been developing their RE-AKT helmets for about a decade now, and the RE-AKT 85 looks to build off the success of the previous RE-AKT 75. The RE-AKT 85 features new Defense Cloud technology, a freeform adjustment system, and an Aerolite 3.0 shell. This performance-level helmet looks to give you the confidence you need in a helmet at a more budget-friendly price point.
Outer Shell Construction
The shell base of the helmet is made of Aerolite 3.0, similar to the Hyperlite protective collection. This shell base supports their new Defense Cloud technology (DCT) in absorbing impact force, and combined with the vinyl nitrile standard material used in most helmets today, you can be sure you are receiving some of Bauer’s best helmet protection at a more affordable price.
Internal Foams & Liner
The RE-AKT 85 uses Bauer’s new Defense Cloud technology, which is an advanced foam that Bauer has been implementing in many of their protectives for the 2022 season. This material is soft, comfy, and form-fitting, in addition to being lightweight. In terms of the liner, the helmet uses Bauer’s Thermocore Zero liner, which is great at both wicking away odour and moisture while additionally keeping you cool throughout the game.
Fit & Sizing Adjustment
A true upgrade from the RE-AKT 75 is the new freeform, tool-free adjustment system that covers both the length and width of the helmet. With new research coming out about head injuries, it is becoming increasingly more important to find a helmet that fits your head shape, which is what the new freeform adjustment system looks to improve on. It is important to note that helmets may decrease your risk for head injury, but no helmet can 100% protect you from concussions.
Certification
The RE-AKT 85 helmet is certified with HECC (Hockey Equipment Certification Council), CSA (Canadian Standards Association), and CE (European Community) certification. These stickers indicate their compliance with the applicable standards in different leagues.
Sizes & Colors
The Bauer RE-AKT 85 Hockey Helmet comes in Small, Medium, and Large sizes in the following colourways: Black, Blue, Navy, Red, and White.

Protects the noggin’, comfy, and adjustable. Not too big either, so it doesn’t make you look like The Great Gazoo.

Hockey Helmet Sizing
Sizing before Purchase
To fit for your proper sized helmet you will need a soft tape measure. Take this tape measure and have another person snugly wrap it around your head at the largest point, usually just above the eyebrows (see left). Record this measurement of circumference and compare it to the available sizing charts in the brand of helmet you are looking at.
Sizing after Purchase
To ensure a good fit after you have received your proper sized helmet, flip open and unlock the helmet clip(s) and slide the helmet to its last and largest setting. Position it on the head so the rim is one finger width above the eyebrow. Gradually begin to downsize the helmet, pressing on the front and back until a comfortable, snug fit is achieved. Lock the helmet into this size by pressing down and closing the locking adjustment(s). Look in a mirror while wearing the helmet to make sure the ear guards are covering at least half of your ear and to make sure the helmet does not appear to be shifting back and forth on your head.
It is recommended to use a mouth guard although not required. It is recommended that players wear HECC and CE Certified helmets and in Hockey Canada sanctioned leagues it is required for helmets to be CSA approved. CSA, HECC and CE Certified stickers are fixed to the helmets indicating their certification.
