The Bauer GSX Chest & Arm Protector is designed for newer or recreational level goalies. It has a lightweight, yet traditional construction that helps get your comfortable in the net to start making saves.
External Material
The Bauer GSX chest protector uses a variety of high-quality material such as leather and advanced nylons to increase abrasion resistance. The chest protector uses a Thermomax liner in the spinal area and in the arms for pro-level comfort. Thermomax is lighter and more breathable than liners previously used, and it is specially designed with high-performance material and intended to enhance the overall comfort of the equipment.
Internal Construction
Inside the protector, we see that the spine is protected with a Thermomax lining and HD foams. This design allows for top-notch protection in the key areas as well as allowing for airflow throughout the back. The sternum is also covered with floating impact protection, which is designed with HD foams to provide a high-level of coverage from impacts, keeping goalies protected while on the ice.
Shoulder Caps
This chest protector features comfort edge shoulder caps. They are designed to enhance comfort and mobility without compromising protection. The softer edge minimizes rubbing and chafing against the neck and chin, especially when looking up or turning the head to track the puck. By reducing the bulk and rigid feel around the neck goalies experience a better range of motion when reaching for pucks.
Elbow Caps
The elbow caps are designed with a series of HD foams that are designed to absorb impacts and keep the elbows protected and secure. The elbow area also features a Hypersene liner, which is designed to provide goalies with a high-level of protection and a comfortable feel while wearing these pads.
Adjustable Arms
Inside the arms, there is also a Dynamic 3-point flex system which allows for optimal arm rotation so goalies aren’t feeling restricted while wearing the chest protector. The arm system is also reinforced with HD foams which provides goalies with a durable material to provide an extra layer of protection.
Bicep & Forearm Protection
The bicep and forearm protection on the GSX chest & arm protector is molded pre-curved foam. The design of the protection allows the arms to sit naturally in the protector, while the padding molds around the arm and provide protection in all areas.
Sizing
The Bauer GSX Senior Chest & Arm Protector comes in sizes Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-Large.

Goalie Chest Protector Sizing
Sizing a chest protector is important to ensure the goaltenders range of motion is uninhibited, while still offering complete coverage from impact. There are steps necessary to finding the right fit in your chest protector, and the first is to know your measurements. Here at The Hockey Shop, we like to use two measurements: torso length and arm span. Once you have these two measurements, match your measurements to our sizing charts.
Sizing your Chest Protector
After receiving your chest protector, you are going to want to check if the size fits the following criteria:
- 1. The arms end just before your wrist. This is important because you want to ensure that the wrist portion of the arms do not interfere with your blocker and catcher—this still provides adequate growing room for the blocker and trapper, which usually last you 1 to 2 years. Depending on the model, adjustable arms may be an offered feature, which is an added bonus for goaltenders that are still growing.
2. Your elbows fit securely in to the pocket of the elbow protection, and do not shift too far away from them. Keep in mind, arms usually have to be adjusted while putting on your chest & arm. Use the adjustable arm features where given to give you an optimal fit.
3. Make sure the shoulders of the chest & arm are sitting comfortably atop, and wrapped around your shoulders. This can be seen visually by looking at the collar of the chest & arm. You want the collar to sit slightly above your clavicle, but not too high that it interferes with the bottom of your goalie mask.
Each brand of chest & arms will have not only a different shape, but also a slightly different fit. We highly recommend having one of our Goalie Specialists to assist you in optimizing the fit of your Chest Protector. If you can't make it into the store, give us a call so we can walk you through it.
