Intro & New Features
Bauer has unveiled their new recreational goalie line in 2023. The Bauer GSX line is made for goalies who skate 1-2 times per week, and it provides the protection needed and performs at a good level for less competitive levels of hockey. The catcher features rebound control foam, R.O.M strap with adjustable lower wrist control, overlapping pinky finger stall with a HyperSense liner for added comfort, and a Max-Depth T Trap with a skate lace pocket.
External Material
The catcher is constructed of synthetic leather material, which provides good durability, as well as some good performance at this price point. It also features rebound control foam to absorb and distribute puck impacts, keeping goalies protected.
Break Angle
The GSX catcher uses a 75-degree break angle, which focuses primarily on a fingertip-to-thumb closure. This further translates to a wider catch surface when opening the glove during play. The Supreme based closure design provides max coverage, which helps goalies track pucks and hold onto rebounds.
Finger Protection
To protect the fingers, Bauer incorporated the use of an overlap pinky finger stall which is made of durable and high-quality foams, and provides added comfort and control. On the inside, they used a Hypersense liner which provide an additional level of comfort inside the catcher.
Pocket Design
The pocket features a max-depth T Trap pocket design. This build allows goalies to absorb the puck and keep rebound in the glove, compared to letting them out. The pocket is completed with a skate lace design or a webbing system. The Black and White colors comes with a skate lace pocket, while Blue, Navy, and Red feature a webbing strapping system.
Strapping
To secure the fit, the GSX catcher has a Supreme R.O.M strap that fully adjusts the catcher to sit where you want it. Additionally, it has an adjustable lower wrist strap, which when combined with the R.O.M strap, provides additional fit adjustment for goalies.
Cuff Design
The cuff design is a reinforced cuff that provides protection against impacts goaltenders may face. Made of high-quality foams, its construction provides structured durability while not affecting the mobility of goaltenders.
Sizes & Colors
The Bauer GSX Intermediate Goalie Catcher is available in White, Red, Navy, Black, and Blue. The White color is the only variant that has a full-right option, for those who catch with their right hand.

Goalie Catcher Sizing
More times than not, the fit of your Goalie Catcher is often overlooked. This is likely the result of the limited size availability compared to other pieces of equipment, however a properly sized Catcher provides you the protection and stick control you trust.
Which Catcher Size is for you?
The first step to finding the correct Catcher size is to utilize the “heel-of-palm-to-tip-of-middle-finger” measurement. This measurement will generally send you to the appropriate size you need.
Analyzing the Catcher Fit
It is important to make sure the palm lines up properly within the catching glove, so that it can be closed without excessive force. New goalie gloves will be difficult to close initially, but through either a standard break-in process, or "baking" the catcher with our in-house convection skate ovens, they will soften over time.
*We do not recommend using any conventional in-home ovens, as the results have been very unpredictable in the past and could damage your Catcher.*
Next you want to ensure the adjustable wrist strap goes directly across the wrist bone, and has minimal to no interference with your chest protector. The goaltender should be able to swivel their wrist to accommodate a range of save selections without any restrictions from the chest protector.
Sizing for Growing Goaltenders
For growing goaltenders we recommend following the guidelines set above, rather than sizing up to accommodate growth. Oversized goalie gloves restrict control, especially for young developing goalies. As you climb the size ladder for Catchers, typically the glove requires more strength for pocket closure.
Which Hand Do I Need?
Figuring out which hand you need for your Catcher can be slightly confusing. Goalies generally refer to themselves as "REGULAR" or "FULL RIGHT". Below is the easiest way to simplify which hand you need.
- Goalie Catcher Hands Simplified
- Regular - Catcher worn on your Left Hand
- Full Right - Catcher worn on your Right Hand
