As any hockey goaltender knows, having reliable and high-performance gear is essential for success on the ice. Bauer has taken their renowned goalie gear and upgraded it with a combination of new technology, what worked before, and what’s worked in their other gear families.
External Material
Similar to previous pants, Bauer chose a lightweight and tough nylon material to cover the majority of the pant, providing excellent durability and protection, in addition to mesh material for breathability and stretchy fabric in the back to offer good mobility and flexibility.
Fit
The fit of the Elite pant caters to a wide range of goalies, whether they prefer a tighter or looser fit. Various sections of the pants can be adjusted through belts, laces, and extensions.
Waist Closure & Internal Belt
The Bauer Elite pants feature a removable internal comfort belt to ensure the perfect fit, in addition to an external belt. The Elite pant keeps the traditional look and fit from the previous iteration with the skate lace style waist closure, and stretch spandex opening that allows for lots of maneuverability.
Hip Protection
The Elite goalie pants use a high-density thick cheater block on the outside of the hip to improve protection and coverage. It also employs a Dynamic 2 Flex technology on the front of the hips to provide good protection and flexibility. The multi-layered protection allows the goalie to feel confident in the crease, knowing their pants will keep them protected and secured.
Thigh Protection
The Volume Thick Foam serves to be both comfortable and highly cushioning when faced with impact force from the puck. The 3-piece AMP protection on the thighs is made from a series of thick, durable foams that are designed to shield the thighs and prevent any sort of injuries from the impacts of a puck.
Liner
The inside of the pants feature a Thermomax+ liner, which is designed to manage moisture and keep players dry during intense gameplay. It is constructed with moisture-wicking material that helps to draw sweat away from the body and accelerate evaporation, promoting a more comfortable and odor-free experience.
Leg Extension
Bauer uses their extension fit loop that is designed to give the pants some length customization. The fit loop extension gives the ability to lengthen their pants an extra 1 inch.

The Bauer Elite Senior Goalie Pants come in sizes Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-Large. These pants are also offered in Black, Blue, and Red.

Goalie Pants Sizing
Goalie pants offer substantially more protection than their player counterparts: the hips are reinforced with high-density foam instead of a thin layer of nylon/elastic, the thighs of a goal pant are usually squared off for coverage purposes and made with thick plastic and foam while the waist is also beefed up to protect vital organs. Lastly, the way the two pants move is even different: player pants are designed to move back and forth while goal pants are more effective for lateral movements.
Properly sized goal pants are the difference between having your chest protector ride up or seamless integration for unrestricted movement. After all, they do connect the biggest pieces of gear a goaltender wears—their chest/arm and leg pads.
The first step is to approximate the size using the sizing charts listed on any individual goal pant’s product page on our website. Usually this is accomplished by matching a waist to a given size. Sometimes companies will list an oversized waist; you can match your size by adding 8” – 10” to your measured size to effectively use the chart. Matching up waist sizes exactly isn’t always necessary. It is very common for goalies to wear pants that are wider to increase net coverage, mobility and comfort.
Unlike player pants, the goalie version isn’t necessarily always worn directly on the waist. It is very common for goaltenders to wear their pants high on the waist (oversized) with suspenders, or low and loose (undersized) that the leg pads are the only things holding them in place. After deciding which one feels more comfortable for your playing style, it is important that the pant is sized such that they terminate above the kneecap—leaving ample room for the knee wing of the leg pad to rest on the inside edge of the knee.
Another thing to consider is if the goalie wears his/her chest protector tucked into the pant or outside. If you’re the former, a pant with an internal belt, non-tapered waist and bigger size is going to accommodate the extra bulk from the chest/arm. On the other hand, if you’re wearing the chest protector on the outside, a tapered waist is going to reduce interference and improve feel.
Lastly, it is crucial to ensure that the pant works well with additional knee protection and the leg pads as well. We recommend trying everything on at once to make sure there is limited interference and that there is enough space in the thigh cradle (inside the pant’s leg) for knee protection to reside without overly restricting movement.
