The Bauer Elite Chest & Arm Protector is a reliable, tested construction that provides fantastic protection for competitive goalie. The lightweight material and an updated belly wrap fit and gear integration improves this popular piece to make it a solid option for goalies.
External Material
The Elite chest protector uses a variety of high-quality materials such as leather and advanced nylons to increase abrasion resistance. The chest protector uses a Supreme Shape and a Thermomax Liner in the spinal area and in the arms for pro-level comfort. The Thermomax liner is lighter and more breathable than liners used previously, and it is specifically designed with high-performance material and intended to enhance the overall comfort of the equipment.
Internal Foams
Inside the protector, we see that the spine is protected with a Supreme Shape with Thermomax lining. This design allows for high-quality protection in the key areas as well as a comfortable feel. The sternum is also covered with a molded foam floating impact protection, which is designed to provide a high-level of coverage from impacts, keeping goalie protected.
Shoulder Caps
The shoulders are protected with a series of HD foams. The HD foams are designed to wrap around the shoulders and provide a high-level of padding for goalies when absorbing impacts. The Pro Style Double Caps allow for a pro-level look while still keeping goalies protected and secure while on the ice.
Adjustable Arms
Inside the arms, there is also a Dynamic 3-point flex system which allows for optimal arm rotation so goalies aren’t feeling restricted while wearing the chest protector. The arm system is also reinforced with HD foams which provides goalies with a durable material to provide an extra layer of protection.
Elbow Caps
The elbow caps are designed with a series of HD foams that are designed to absorb impacts and keep the elbows protected and secure. The elbow area also features a Hypersene liner, which is designed to provide goalies with a high-level of protection and a comfortable feel while wearing these pads.
Bicep & Forearm Protection
The bicep and forearm protection on the Elite chest & arm protector is molded pre-curved foam. The design of the protection allows the arms to sit naturally in the protector, while the padding molds around the arm and provide protection in all areas. Additionally, the RVH protection features thicker foam for the bicep and forearm with added coverage on the tricep.

The Bauer Elite Intermediate Chest & Arm Protector come in sizes Extra-Small, Small, Medium, and Large.

Goalie Chest Protector Sizing
Sizing a chest protector is important to ensure the goaltenders range of motion is uninhibited, while still offering complete coverage from impact. There are steps necessary to finding the right fit in your chest protector, and the first is to know your measurements. Here at The Hockey Shop, we like to use two measurements: torso length and arm span. Once you have these two measurements, match your measurements to our sizing charts.
Sizing your Chest Protector
After receiving your chest protector, you are going to want to check if the size fits the following criteria:
- 1. The arms end just before your wrist. This is important because you want to ensure that the wrist portion of the arms do not interfere with your blocker and catcher—this still provides adequate growing room for the blocker and trapper, which usually last you 1 to 2 years. Depending on the model, adjustable arms may be an offered feature, which is an added bonus for goaltenders that are still growing.
2. Your elbows fit securely in to the pocket of the elbow protection, and do not shift too far away from them. Keep in mind, arms usually have to be adjusted while putting on your chest & arm. Use the adjustable arm features where given to give you an optimal fit.
3. Make sure the shoulders of the chest & arm are sitting comfortably atop, and wrapped around your shoulders. This can be seen visually by looking at the collar of the chest & arm. You want the collar to sit slightly above your clavicle, but not too high that it interferes with the bottom of your goalie mask.
Each brand of chest & arms will have not only a different shape, but also a slightly different fit. We highly recommend having one of our Goalie Specialists to assist you in optimizing the fit of your Chest Protector. If you can't make it into the store, give us a call so we can walk you through it.
