"A lightning-quick stick specifically designed for lightning-quick shooters," is the tagline for the new Warrior Covert QRL and Warrior looks to bring the success they had with the QR1 to the QRL. A similar name, but don’t be mistaken – Warrior has upped the ante with their new Covert lineup to maximize performance on the ice. Making this stick shoot faster than its predecessor was no easy feat but Warrior managed to bring some space-age technology to the QRL to help set the bar in terms of stick performance. Let’s dive in and see what Warrior's so excited to launch.
Lighting Quick Release
Warrior’s focal point for the new Covert QRL is the use of their Lighting Quick Release. Essentially, it is the explosive recoil that increases the speed of the puck at the time of release with more velocity and pinpoint accuracy that previous sticks. Warrior achieves this through the use three different technological advances.
Re-think Strength
Minimus Carbon 1000 – An Aerospace carbon composite weave design that is 40% stronger than conventional carbon. Through this the longevity of the stick increases as it is able to withstand more shots than traditional carbon sticks. Minimus Carbon also provides a 20% increase in stiffness and is 10% lighter than its predecessors. Combining these factors into the QRL provides a stiffer, stronger stick that is also lighter and will improve puck feel and balance.
Speaking more scientifically, Minimus Carbon uses a flat weave design reducing the negative space between the fibers themselves. Consequently, this helps shave weight, increase strength and increase stiffness of the weave. Minimus Carbon works together with the Dagger Taper III by making the taper more responsive during gameplay and helps to maximize the feel and balance during construction.
Lighting Quick Response
Dagger Taper III – This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Dagger Taper make an appearance on Warrior sticks, but this time the 3rd generation of the taper provides some key upgrades over previous versions. The unique thin and strong hosel profile creates a Low-Kick Flex that is easy to load for those “Lightning Quick” shots.
The new taper design has been improved to work better with the Minimus Carbon 1000 for increased efficiency and better accuracy.
True 1 Design
Last but not least, the True 1 design of the QRL provides some key enhancements to improve balance and puck feel. With the Covert QRL being Warrior’s lightest stick ever, it is important to strike a balance between the shaft and blade - True 1 technology helps to seamlessly provide a true one piece design with excellent puck feel on the ice. True 1 is also coupled with the Minimus Carbon it help reduce weight and further help with the overall balance of the stick.
Coupled together, these three design elements help harmonize Warrior’s goal and they usher in a new era for the Covert lineup. As successful as last generation’s Covert QR1 was, the Covert QRL improves upon it in almost every way. With a stronger design and quicker release, you can expect to put the puck in the back of the net with better accuracy and increased frequency.
