Warrior Corvert QRE10 Pants - First Look
The QRE 10 is the pro-level hockey pant model from Warrior’s Covert Protective lineup and based on our first impressions we love what we see. At quick glance you can easily see the QRE 10 is designed for streamlined mobility. The tapered design of the QRE 10 allows for maximum comfort and movement without added bulk. Let’s quickly look at some of the key features.
AxyFlex Impax Foam
What truly makes the QRE 10 tick is the separated upper and lower pads in the AxyFlex package. This allows each layer of protection to move in dependently with your body’s natural movement when skating and shooting. The molded spine and kidney protection hug your torso to avoid getting in the way when you twist and pivot while maximizing coverage. Nothing flares out it all hugs back toward your body.
The Impax Foam used in the hip, spine and kidney sections is a slightly softer foam that provides a comfier fit and combined with more dense foams provides ultimate protection. The internal floating belt section keeps a snug fit around the waist while allowing the outer padding to twist with your body.
Covert Taper Fit
From both a performance and stylistic standpoint we are seeing more hockey players lean toward a more contoured fit. The QRE 10 is a minimalist form fitting pant with nearly no excess material or bulk. The pant wraps snug around the legs and waist to create a seamless feeling when skating. There is no lag between movements and this system provides a feeling similar to that of a girdle and shell system. The tailored fit is super natural and is becoming a preferred style by many pro hockey players as the game becomes more and more agile in play style.
Adjustable Leg Extension
Whether you’re looking to customize fit or allow for growth room the 1” adjustable leg extension is a valuable feature. The zipper system built into the QRE 10 waist gusset makes it easy to add or remove 1” of length. Fit versatility is also become more and more prevalent with hockey gear and getting the length dialed in helps with the tapered fit approach so you don’t have to size up in the waist to get the appropriate leg length.
Wartech FNC Liner
A staple with all Warrior high end protective gear, the Polygiene treated material keeps you cool, dry, and odor free. The Wartech liner keeps bacteria and moisture away from protective foams. Bacteria getting into these foams is what causes most of the stink with hockey gear. Keeping these foams dry and cool means you avoid the stink and don’t have to worry about killing bacteria and germs deep in the padding.
Minimus Outer Shell
The QRE 10 has an outer shell designed for optimal weight, durability and stretch. In the past we’ve seen heavy duty denier nylon in pro level pants to hold up in highly physical and competitive hockey. The downside to this material is added weight and stiffness. The premium material used with the QRE 10 addresses this by trimming weight and adding stretch and it does so with a unique weave. Even the smallest detail can make a huge difference. The shell also features built in suspender pull straps.
Final Thoughts
Gone are the days of big bulky pants with everyone trending towards either a girdle and shell system or tapered fit like the QRE 10. It makes perfect sense and as long as you’re properly protected then having lighter more contoured gear will let you move on the ice much more easily. I really like the way the upper padding hugs the body so your elbows don’t brush the hips as much during pivots and puck protection. Overall, Warrior has done a terrific job with the design and build of these hockey pants.
