Before hitting the ice, the first thing I noticed about Warrior's new Alpha QX stick was how balanced and light (410 grams) the stick feels in your hands.
I was able to get my hands on the QX early and give it a go. On the ice, I was really impressed with how quick the puck comes off the blade with little effort. It has a slightly higher kick point compared to the QRL which I was previously using but it defiantly does not affect how quickly you can get a shot off. The QX gave me a quick release with shots in tight and lot's of pop when leaning into a slap shot.
The blade has a softer feel than the QRL which was very noticeable with one-touch passing and receiving harder passes. I'd say it feels similar to to the True XC9 when it comes to blade/puck feel.
The 'Ergo' shaft shape lets the stick sit comfortably in your hands and has a real natural feel. Combine that with the Protex performance grip, the stick felt extremely stable and did not rotate in my hands even after my gloves were soaking wet.
Shaft Specs
Ergo Shaft Shape and Protex Performance Grip Texture
The ergonomic contour shaped shaft fits comfortably and securely in your hands enhancing touch and feel for better deking, toe drags and shooting.
Textured corners coupled with a tacky soft grip finish locks easily in your hands for optimum control.
Minimus carbon
Minimus Carbon 1000 – An Aerospace carbon composite weave design that is 40% stronger than conventional carbon. Through this technology, the longevity of the stick increases as it is able to withstand more shots than traditional carbon sticks.
Speaking more scientifically, Minimus Carbon uses a flat weave design reducing the negative space between the fibers themselves. Consequently, this helps shave weight, increase strength and increase the stiffness of the weave.
Final Thoughts
The two sticks that I've been bringing to the rink before the Alpha QX were Warrior's QRL and a True XC9. I think the Alpha QX takes the best out of both worlds with having the pop of the QRL and the dampening softer feel of the XC9 blade.
Overall, I was really impressed with Warrior's latest creation and would give this guy a 10/10!
As always, if you’re a local customer or just visiting the store, swing by and demo the new Alpha QX in our Warrior Demo Shooting Zone. I think you’ll be as impressed with the QX's pop as I was.
