CCM Fitlite Helmet Review
Take a closer look at the new features built into this new lid.
The designers at CCM have engineered subshells to create a lightweight but pro grade level of protection. Designed to better manage rotational acceleration by integrating CCM’s new R.E.D. (Rotation Energy Dampening) System to their new comfort liner, the Fitlite helmet is combining the advantage of a fully customizable fit with innovation in safety protection.
What is the R.E.D. System?
This revolutionary technology was developed in conjunction with the smart cookies at Oblique Technology and the University of Ottawa. R.E.D. is short for Rotational Energy Dampening and is best explained as series of liquid-filled bladders positioned between the liner and the player’s head that reduce rotational acceleration of the head during impacts.
The reason the comfort level is so high is the combination of low density EPP foam along with Lycra laminated cushions that provide a comfortable wrap around every part of your head. CCM calls it a 360 degree fit – we like our description better.
Make sure you get the proper fit
The one common fit feature our staff found that we like was that the Fitlite fits very similar to the Reebok 11K. The 11K was a great fitting helmet for us and it’s worth noting that it provides slightly more volume than other brands. This is good for those with slightly wider heads but those with skinnier noggins will need to make sure that the fit is secure before making the Fitlite their choice.
Fit is absolutely the most important factor when choosing the right helmet. Not sure if it fits right? Visit one of our helmet fit specialists in store to be professionally fit with the Pro-formance Fit Advantage system, developed by Source for Sports.
