CCM FitLITE 3DS Helmet

CCM engineered the FitLITE 3DS to meet the high performance needs of NHLers and other professionals…but the real story here is the exceptional fit.

Fit

Perhaps the most important fit feature on the FitLITE 3DS helmet is the new Microdial 3 system which allows you to control the overall fit and micro adjustments within the helmet. The Microdial 3 does a remarkable job in limiting the negative space within the helmet, and a better fit equals better protection.

The Microdial 3 really works. As soon as I put the helmet on and turned the dial a few times, I instantly felt the helmet tighten up and lock my head in. The helmet felt extremely secure and didn’t feel as if it was going to move. Additionally, the use of an occipital lock keeps the helmet in place during gameplay. Another nice benefit is that the adjustments are quick, easy and can be made on the fly. And of course the FitLITE 3DS features tool free adjustments so you can adjust the size of the helmet to your head without having to waste time on the bench. Snap open the side clips, adjust, and off you go.

Protection

As featured in CCM’s Ultra Tacks protective gear, D3O smart foam makes its way to the FitLITE 3DS helmet. This smart foam has high shock absorbing properties that makes it an excellent choice to help reduce high impact energy throughout gameplay. The foam provides pro level protection and the concept is that, at its resting sate, the foam is very soft and malleable, but during the occurrence of a high energy impact, the foam tenses to absorb the energy.

Seeing the videos and demos of the foam that CCM has showed off, the concept is really intriguing to see, but more importantly, it’s even better to see manufacturers take the time and resources to better their equipment for the consumer and pros alike.

The FitLITE 3DS utilizes a high density PE shell with an ABS subshell for a lightweight pro level protection along with team customizable colour options. Going into the liner of the helmet, CCM chose to use low density EPP with memory foam comfort cushions. The liner adds that extra bit of padding that will eventually mold to the shape of your head for that added comfort and more complete fit. The 3DS also comes standard with ear covers to prevent any unwanted sticks or pucks that come up high during gameplay.

Looks

There’s no doubt that the CCM FitLITE 3DS is an excellent looking helmet. With air vents at the front, there’s no shortage of airflow. Along with custom colour options, the helmet should either stand out on the ice, or fit in with your team nicely.

Conclusion

If you’re in the market for a new helmet, give the 3DS a look, it provides an excellent custom fit, and utilizes state of the art foams for added comfort and protection.
