CCM 2052 Pro Protective Reviewed
At the second level of the CCM Tacks line of protective equipment, the CCM 2052 series offers superior projection and mobility over the entry level CCM 1052 line. With the power of Source for Sports, we were able to take the CCM 2052 line and create the CCM 2052 Pro line of equipment. Exclusive to Source for Sports retailers, the entire line offers protective and cosmetic upgrades on each piece. These changes come directly from the CCM 4052 and CCM 6052 line in internal but also external upgrade. A key themes that can be seen throughout the line is visual changes to the equipment to mimic the look of the 6052 Tacks “blacked out” style. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the 2052 Pro improved from the regular line:
Pants
For the 2052 Pro pants, upgrades have been taken from the 4052, as well as the 6052. Moving into the protective upgrades on the pants, CCM now offers molded PE inserts and foam in the tailbone to better protect you against various impacts, also to increase the comfort level and overall fit of the pants. Floating molded PE spine system enhances the protection of the pants by moving with the body to keep protection during skating.
Shin
Improving upon an already excellent price-point shin, CCM has kicked in some welcomed upgrades to the 2052 Pro Shin Pad. Starting on the inside of the pad, the liner features an anatomical design with a knee landing zone that’s removable for easy cleaning. This also helps provide a secure fit to the leg itself to prevent unwanted rotation of the pad. An upgraded yellow liner is also a mainstay on the 2052 Pro Shin Pad.
Moving to the outside of the pad, an upgraded calf wrap with segmented foam allows the padding to sit tighter to the leg, providing a more protective fit. To secure the pad to the leg, CCM opted for features taken from the 4052 to upgrade the strapping system on the 2052 Pro. A wrap-around lock strap grabs the leg right above the calf to prevent unwanted rotation, and a simple cross strap locks the calf wrap in place during gameplay.
The fabric on the outside of the pad has also been upgraded from the 4052. Additionally, don’t confuse the 2052 Pro with the CCM 6052 Shin as the 2052 features the “blacked out” 6052 look for style points.
Shoulder
For the 2052 Pro Shoulder Pad, the upgrades are apparent on the shoulder and sternum sections of the pad. Taken from the Ultra Tacks, a shaped and molded HD floating sternum with exposed foam covering adds elite lightweight impact resistance to the chest area.
Moving to the shoulders, molded foam covered PE shoulder caps have been added with molded HD foam running to the clavicle area as well. The use of molded foam allows the shoulder pad to remain lightweight, and allows it sit closer to the body for increased protection and the reduction of negative space.
To secure the pads to the body, an elastic strapping system at the ribs and biceps along with height adjustment features tucked under the shoulder caps. The system is able to offer tight, secure fit to ensure there’s no rotation of the pads that could leave areas exposed. Mimicking the 6052, the 2052 Pro features the “blacked out” look with ventilated molded foam armor along with a yellow Tacks liner for added protection and comfort.
Up top the floating bicep protection with PE inserts that help the pad hug tight to the arm reducing the amount of negative space and providing better protection. To help fasten the pad to the arm, a three-strap system is utilized. An overlapping lock strap along with a wrap strap allows the pad to hug tightly against the arm while also providing increased comfort.
Conclusion
With the CCM 2052 line being a deemed a price-point set up, it is important to see and understand what the upgrades are on the 2052 Pro line. Source for Sports has been able to take what most would consider an entry level product, and turn it into a mid-level gem. The upgrades on the 2052 Pro make it so you can pick up some new mid-level items while paying price point prices. Not only do these upgrades offer create a better value, but they increase the longevity of the gear itself. The better protection and material mean you’ll be sticking with the 2052 Pro longer, and without breaking the bank. CCM really hit the mark with the standard 2052 Tacks line, but excelled on the 2052 Pro.
