If you were anything like me, you were likely wondering what Bauer’s Vapor Hyperlite series would look like in a glove—and how its features and focus could possibly top the highly successful 2X Pro glove series. And now, all our questions are finally answered. The new Hyperlite gloves come in with everything you loved about the 2X Pro and more, with the integration of Shocklite foam, a new DuraCONNEKT palm, and brand new DCT foam.

Defense Cloud Tech

Defense Cloud Tech Foam

Bauer’s been hard at work this past year upgrading their glove tech and foams. For 2022, they have come up with Defense Cloud Tech foam, which can be found in their newest helmet lineups, as well as the Hyperlite gloves. DCT is a revolutionary lightweight foam equipped with just a bit of everything you need in both a foam and a liner: it’s light, form-fitting, comfortable, and great at managing sweat and odour.

On the Hyperlite glove, DCT can be found protecting the backhand in combination with the Shocklite backhand plate. Both foams contribute greatly to the weight reduction of the glove, dropping it by 25% (265g in Senior).

Shocklite

Shocklite Foam

As mentioned in the last section, these gloves implement a Shocklite backhand plate for superior protection against impact force. Hyperlite equipment not only needs to be protective, but it also needs to allow for superior mobility. This means that every part of the construction must contribute to moving efficiently on the ice, and that is exactly why Shocklite was used. Shocklite is not just light—it is also flexible and tough, which can promote that desired ease of movement.

Duraconnekt

DuraCONNEKT Palm

The Hyperlite’s upgrade from a CONNEKT+ palm to a DuraCONNEKT palm is a very much welcomed update. The main premise behind the initial CONNEKT+ palm was to enhance palm comfort and feel; as the name implies, the palm is meant to help you feel more connected to the glove and your stick. Under similar logic, the new DuraCONNEKT palm is meant to do exactly that with a 30% overall increase in durability. This will help your hands feel even better while you play—and for much longer too.

Nanosense And Thermocore

Nanosense & Thermocore Zero Liners

DuraCONNEKT does offer an amazing and comfortable feel, but it couldn’t quite reach that point by itself. Combined with the Nanosense liner in the fingers and brand new Thermocore Zero, the inside can reach that optimal softness and comfort you need during the game. Thermocore Zero has been specially treated with a new yarn treatment to manage sweat and odour better than ever before. In addition to sweat management, this liner also provides a cooling effect.

Final Thoughts

Bauer has recently shown themselves as of the top contenders when it comes to glove construction, and the Hyperlite gloves definitely do not disappoint. I love the new DC Tech and Shocklite combination in particular; Vapor, as the “quick-on-your-feet” (or in this case, “quick-hands”) line, any strategy taken to reduce weight at all, let alone by a whopping 25%, is going to make a world of difference. The Hockey Shop has some pretty high expectations for this line in the upcoming seasons.
