TRUE Temper Hockey starts off 2022 with a new goalie stick in the Catalyst family: the Catalyst PX. This stick integrates various elements from the player side to enhance performance and create one of the lightest goalie sticks ever at 530g. In addition to BAT, PLD, and Axenic Tech, which were all seen in the 9X, the PX also includes PASS from the player side, as well as their all-new ResFlo Tech. With its slick new design and fresh upgrades, the Catalyst PX goalie stick is shaping up to be one of the top sticks on the market.

Shaft Construction

The Catalyst PX goalie stick is a highly advanced piece of equipment, and with that, you can expect a lot going on with the shaft. TRUE reintroduces their patented Axenic Technology, with a compression technique that allows the stick to have a true one-piece construction and seamless feel. TRUE reached this incredible light weight in their top-of-the-line goalie stick by using a variety of innovations, including PLD and ResFlo in the shaft. PLD was seen in the 9X—also known as Precision Laminate Design, it puts extra emphasis on how the carbon fibre angles in the construction, thus making the shaft both stronger and lighter. ResFlo builds off that with its own focus on minimizing voids, resulting in a more consistent laminate.

This goalie stick has a mid kick point for better control and loading power when clearing the puck.

Paddle Construction

The combination of ResFlo, PLD, Pass, Axenic, and the mid kick point all make the paddle more responsive and stiffer, heightening playability and puck control. BAT, or Braided Aramid Tech, strengthens the blade and paddle and gives them better dampening and balance properties.

Blade Construction/Stiffness

BAT was upgraded from TRUE’s BRT+ tech to use new Aramid fibres instead of carbon, and the result is a more dampened and steady feel and better durability. From the player line, TRUE also included PASS, or a Performance Advanced Strength System, into their top-of-the-line Catalyst goalie stick. PASS makes the blade 25% stronger than the old tech, XCORE, and the less rigid blade makes for less wear and tear by preventing early foam breakdown. The blade itself has also become stiffer than before.

Graphics

The Catalyst PX goalie stick keeps the yellow handle from the 9X and 5X, but the rest loses the large yellow accents in the paddle for a full black colouration. The TRUE logo sits across the paddle in white this time, along with the Catalyst PX logo up the shaft. Although the main colour is black in this version, there are still light gold accents running along the paddle.

Grip

The PX continues to use the hexagonal tacky grip of the rest of the Catalyst line, along with a steeper shoulder for added control and a better feel when stickhandling. The Catalyst PX also keeps the rounded shaft geometry from the previous versions for a better connection to the stick.

Blade Patterns, Paddle Lengths, Stick Lengths, Weight, Level of Play

The PX Intermediate stick comes in sizes 23 and 24 with an MC2 curve at retail. This curve is similar to the P34 from Bauer, which is a mid curve with an open face. The Catalyst PX is only 530g at max inermediate height, making it TRUE’s lightest goalie stick to date. The PX is built to perform at the highest level and is a perfect option for any elite goalie.
