TRUE Catalyst PX Goalie Stick Review
TRUE Catalyst PX Goalie Stick Review

Have you ever had those games where your team just isn’t producing, and you wish you could go out and do it all? With the brand new Catalyst PX goalie stick from TRUE, you can equip yourself with all you need show your teammates how it’s done—from an even lighter construction to a mid kick point for power, added durability, and even some player tech, get ready to arm yourself with all the tools you need to make the big saves and rack up some points too.
All jokes aside, the Catalyst PX is a clear step up from the first generation of Catalyst goalie sticks; its reduced weight and incredible toughness are all important in a goalie stick, and now you can have all the qualities needed not just to stop the puck, but to control the ice too.
Built for Control
I know we were technically joking about how using this stick would help you stickhandle, score goals, and do it all yourself, but the thing is, this stick really was engineered to enhance your play both in the net stopping the puck and outside the net too. With a stiffer and more responsive paddle, in addition to the lighter composition (by 35g in SR), the Catalyst PX aims to refine your game from all angles.
Mid Kick Point
In player sticks, the mid kick profile is built for power and unparalleled control. Although not as common a characteristic to be named in a goalie stick, TRUE included this particular kick point to further maximize your potential for puck handling and control.
It becomes increasingly more important the higher up you go in level that you play the puck as a goalie. As players become better at the game, they also become more unpredictable—ultimately, the best course of action to keep control of the game in many cases is to play the puck before they can. Despite that, however, it’s also imperative that you make that play perfectly. TRUE’s focus on control and durability in their highest-end goal stick looks to make even some of the most challenging plays easier and more seamless.
BAT—Braided Aramid Tech
We’ve already seen BAT, also known as Braided Aramid Tech, in TRUE’s Catalyst line before. BAT was upgraded from BRT+ to use new aramid fibres instead of carbon, softening the blade a bit for better dampening and control, and also to make the stick lighter. Aramid fibre is relatively tougher and more heat-resistant, complementing TRUE’s signature Axenic Tech construction.
Axenic Technology
Axenic Technology is probably TRUE’s most used and successful innovation in stick design, in which they compress the mold altogether at very high temperatures and pressure for solid wall thickness and to develop a genuine one-piece stick.
One-piece sticks offer amazing feel and balance compared to two-piece, and they also tend to have a more reliable kick point. In the case of goalies, that means amplified effects from the mid kick point and better control when handling the puck.
PLD—Precision Laminate Design
Yet another feature that was present in previous Catalyst models, PLD, or Precision Laminate Design, focuses on how the fibres are layered in the shaft, effectively making it more durable on impact.
Although rare, breakage in any part of a goalie stick can be devastating, especially if it happens during play. And with the Catalyst PX focusing greatly on enhancing your game with controlling the puck, it becomes absolutely vital that your stick stays intact during these interactions too.
ResFlo—Focused Resin Flow
Speaking of new tech in the shaft, TRUE debuts ResFlo Technology in their new sticks for 2022. Like how PLD has an intricate focus on fibre angles, ResFlo concentrates on diminishing voids to reinforce the stick and allow for TRUE to eliminate unnecessary material elsewhere. Overall, the goal stick was able to shave off 35g (SR) with this new tech.
PASS—Performance Advanced Strengthening System
PASS, or Performance Advanced Strengthening System, was seen on TRUE’s player sticks as a replacement for XCORE. It is a new foam core that works closely with BAT to add a better dampening feel while also strengthening the blade. In effect, PASS has strengthened the blade of the Catalyst PX by 25%, the same as it did for the player side.
Final Thoughts
I’m not a goalie myself personally, but from my experience, it was always a major asset when a goalie could not only make clutch saves in the net, but when they had the confidence to command the rest of the ice too. TRUE put a major focus on control and accuracy in their Catalyst line to enhance that part of a goalie’s game, and with the added tech and lighter weight, goalies can better adapt to every situation on the ice—whether that be making a game-determining save, or if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, taking a powerful shot from your crease toward the other net.
