New to the 2020 Bauer lineup is the Bauer Pro Goalie Pant. The Pro Goal Pant features a new fit that varies from the previous Supreme or Vapor pants, but still carries aspects of each product line. These pants are a big deal for Bauer as they will be the first time Bauer has released custom goalie pants. Bauer is putting a lot of trust in this line of pants as this will now be their only line of goal pants they carry moving forward.
External Material
The externals of the pants are covered in 4 main materials. Nylon covers the majority of the pant, which is a light durable material. Bauer uses their Thermocore liner which will provide a cool environment inside the pant and help protect against bacteria and odor. The next material is mesh which helps keep the goalie pant at a cool temperature. Lastly they use a stretchy fabric at the back and inner thigh of the pant to offer mobility and flexibility in the pant.
Fit
Bauer really knocked it out of the park fit wise with these pants. The new fit will definitely contour towards more customers, allowing for tight or loose fit. The pant uses a fairly large squared off leg which allows for your leg to move freely through the pant.
Waist Closure & Internal Belt
Bauer is going back to a more traditional closure and belt setup than what we had seen in the last two years. The Bauer Pro Goalie Pant has an internal belt, with external cinch belt and lace closure. This gives you three different adjustments to secure the pants around the waist, with the option of using suspenders as well.
Hip Protection
The hips of the Bauer Pro Pant are constructed with Comfort Edge Anatomical protection and Internal PORON. This provides elite protection and a snugger fit in the hips. There is also a hip flex pad that has Curv composite and Shock Lite protection giving you an extra layer of protection.
Groin Protection
As with most goal pants, the groin protection is fairly light and features a tucked in free flex groin pad with lace-in system. This provides good flex through the front of the Bauer Pro Goalie Pant.
Thigh Protection
Bauer is using their Curv 3 PC Amp throughout the thigh which is built up of Curv composite and Molded HD foams to offer the elite protection at a light weight.
Leg Extension
Bauer uses their extension fit loop to give this pant some length customization. The fit loop extension gives the ability to lengthen the pants an extra 1.5 inches.
Knee Pad Attachment
As for Knee Pad attachment systems Bauer does have one on the pant but it is very basic. It features a single nylon strap on the inside of the pant to help give the knee pad a more secure fit.
Sizes & Colors
The Bauer Pro SR Goalie Pants are available in Black, Navy, and Red. The pants will be available in sizes Small through Extra Large.

Goalie Pants Sizing
Goalie pants offer substantially more protection than their player counterparts: the hips are reinforced with high-density foam instead of a thin layer of nylon/elastic, the thighs of a goal pant are usually squared off for coverage purposes and made with thick plastic and foam while the waist is also beefed up to protect vital organs. Lastly, the way the two pants move is even different: player pants are designed to move back and forth while goal pants are more effective for lateral movements.
Properly sized goal pants are the difference between having your chest protector ride up or seamless integration for unrestricted movement. After all, they do connect the biggest pieces of gear a goaltender wears—their chest/arm and leg pads.
The first step is to approximate the size using the sizing charts listed on any individual goal pant’s product page on our website. Usually this is accomplished by matching a waist to a given size. Sometimes companies will list an oversized waist; you can match your size by adding 8” – 10” to your measured size to effectively use the chart. Matching up waist sizes exactly isn’t always necessary. It is very common for goalies to wear pants that are wider to increase net coverage, mobility and comfort.
Unlike player pants, the goalie version isn’t necessarily always worn directly on the waist. It is very common for goaltenders to wear their pants high on the waist (oversized) with suspenders, or low and loose (undersized) that the leg pads are the only things holding them in place. After deciding which one feels more comfortable for your playing style, it is important that the pant is sized such that they terminate above the kneecap—leaving ample room for the knee wing of the leg pad to rest on the inside edge of the knee.
Another thing to consider is if the goalie wears his/her chest protector tucked into the pant or outside. If you’re the former, a pant with an internal belt, non-tapered waist and bigger size is going to accommodate the extra bulk from the chest/arm. On the other hand, if you’re wearing the chest protector on the outside, a tapered waist is going to reduce interference and improve feel.
Lastly, it is crucial to ensure that the pant works well with additional knee protection and the leg pads as well. We recommend trying everything on at once to make sure there is limited interference and that there is enough space in the thigh cradle (inside the pant’s leg) for knee protection to reside without overly restricting movement.
